Coyotes in Central Park (fact). Coyotes at Columbia University (fact). A world denuded of people, scavenged by coyotes (fairy tale).
Based upon Matt's fairy tale “Coyote Pursues,” we are constructing a multi-media performance of marionettes, video and music that will portray two coyotes living in an austere world newly bereft of people. Deborah has created coyote marionettes and various props that bring an eerie reality to this envisioned world. The video will figure as a second narrative that will place the coyotes within their environs as well as suggest the world before and the world to come. Dan shot its major scenes in Kansas; these scenes will be folded around footage of historical human scenes and the eroded text of the fairy tale. The aesthetic will be minimalist—human hands, memories in this fairy-tale world.
We are hoping to raise $2,500. This will cover the cost of the set but not the entirety of the project. The set will consist of a broken-down train bridge at the front of the stage that will be both prop and platform from which the puppeteers will control the coyotes and other props. The set will reflect the various areas the animals move through: prairie, abandoned homes, graveyards and the animals they encounter along the way. The video will be rear-projected onto a screen behind the bridge, and the audience will see the video through and around the bridge. If we raise more money, we’ll be able to do the following things:
$3000 - Cover the entire material and production costs.
$3500 + - Pay the puppeteers and musicians.
Please give what you can and if you can't, please spread the word and let others know what we are up to.
Coyote Pursues will be performed during Labapalooza! June 23 - 27 (specific dates and times TBD) at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY. Thank you everyone for your encouragement and support.
