During the past three weeks many members of our team have been using their spare time to cook up something short, nice and funny for you all Kaptain Brawe fans to play and have fun with during this Kickstarter campaign. Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty is a sequel to the traditional humorous point and click adventure from 2010 - Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World. The game and its whimsical characters, as well as its colourful and detailed hand-drawn visual style, were inspired by legendary Lucas Arts and Sierra adventure games of old, such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle and Space Quest!
Cateia Games, a veteran indie development studio behind the first Kaptain Brawe game, also well known for its roster of a dozen other excellent adventures, is teaming up with legendary writer and game designer, Steve Ince (of Broken Sword and So Blonde fame) to bring this project to life! Bringing his unique artistic approach to the table is another veteran of the adventure genre, famous artist Bill Tiller (The Curse of Monkey Island, A Vampyre Story).
This match made in heaven becomes even more appealing when the highly talented art production team from Frontmen Studio is added to the mix as the main visual creative force behind the game. They will be responsible for the beautiful hand-drawn scenery and characters that will add a special touch to the unique visual style of the game.
Of course, Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty will be FULLY VOICED by professional voice actors who’ll be cast at a later date by Steve Ince and the heads of the Cateia Games team!

If you haven't played A Brawe New World, the original Kaptain Brawe adventure, you must be wondering who this intriguing hero actually is. While it would take a modest lifetime to properly describe all the subtle nuances of his "delicate" personality, for purpose of this Kickstarter campaign we’ll simply say he’s a space police captain with a serious attitude, and a special talent for doing things exactly the wrong way! We say “talent” because, in his previous adventure, he became caught up in an unlikely series of events that revealed the greatest space conspiracy ever.
In the original game, Kaptain Brawe intercepted a distress signal from a crashed ship and travelled to the planet Jama Spacea to investigate. It quickly became apparent that the crashed ship belonged to the bad guys. Chasing each other around the galaxy, our hero teams up with unlikely allies to infiltrate a pirate organisation and stop the conspiracy.
Ursula Unsula, the queen of Zennity Sping, the tiniest planet in the known universe, has grand plans and plans to put those plans into action as soon as she’s planned her breakfast of Krypto-Koffee and Kaffles. What grand plans, you ask? Why, she only wants to take over Folderakkiakkiu, the second tiniest planet. If she succeeds in doing that, who knows where it will end? Megalomaniacs, eh?
Meanwhile, the only man who has the remotest chance of stopping her is dead, so it falls to Kaptain Brawe to save the day. May the mighty Shelzar have mercy on us all. Unfortunately, Brawe currently finds himself stranded on a remote ice planet with little hope of rescue. It wouldn’t be so bad if he hadn’t just burnt the last flammable part of his damaged ship in an effort to keep warm.
Can he, against all odds, find his way off this butt-freezing lump of rock and ice and re-save the universe? Presuming, of course, he even has a clue that it actually needs saving.
And who, or what, in the name of the galactic core is an Ittle?

“No, no, no!” screamed Steve as he underwent torture at the hands of Cateia Games, the crazy creatives behind the first Kaptain Brawe game. The team wanted to make a sequel and were under the misguided impression that it would be a good idea to involve Steve Ince, a guy who likes to make up crazy stories, even about himself. “No,” he continued. “I won’t rob a bank to fund the game; you’ll have to run a Kickstarter campaign.”
The man sitting behind the desk-light turned down the corner of another page in Steve’s favourite book – boy these guys really knew how to do the worst torture. Between that and making him drink tea without any sugar, Steve was unable to resist any longer. “Look, I’ll even help you with the campaign, okay?”
The team grinned and a shiver went down Steve’s back. Just what had he let himself in for?
Even if he never wants to admit it, Steve is one of the adventure genre legends of old that we all admire and love so much! He’s best known for his work on classic adventure games at Revolution Software, including the Broken Sword series and Beneath a Steel Sky, along with titles like So Blonde and Captain Morgane. Even though we may feel we already know him, we’ll let Steve talk about the project in his own words.
This game is going to be the first outright wacky comedy game I’ve worked on for some time and I’m really looking forward to getting my fingers stuck into the keyboard. Well, not literally, of course. When I was approached by the team at Cateia Games to get involved with the sequel to the first Kaptain Brawe game, I pondered long and hard on what I should do.
Two minutes later, my head already bursting with ideas, I replied to their enquiring e-mail with a measured response. I say measured because I took out my old Mary Poppins Tape Measure™ and found that it read exactly “excitedly enthusiastic”; not a millimetre more or a quarter-ounce less.
But a little more seriously, Kaptain Brawe 2 will be a perfect fit for my humorous sensibilities. I enjoy working on all the projects I undertake and with the clients behind them, but every so often there comes a project where I know that if I don’t work on it, the potential ideas that would have been generated will haunt my dreams for years to come.
So, to be a little self-indulgent – please consider backing this project and help all those potential ideas become a reality. I promise that Kaptain Brawe – A Space Travesty will be far more fun than visiting a zero-G massage parlour.

This rounds up the truly all star game development team behind Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty that will be able to make it a perfect traditional comical point and click adventure!

If we manage to gather a much higher level of support for Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty during this Kickstarter campaign, we already have some exciting ideas that will help Steve, Bill and Cateia Games turn the game from great to wonderful!

Cateia Games is a veteran indie game development studio from Croatia. Creators of the original award winning Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World with more than 10 years of experience and over a dozen projects shipped. The studio comprises more than a dozen developers with a combined games industry experience in excess of 100 years.
We are very passionate about the adventure game genre and most of our games have fallen under this label so far! It’s always been our dream to develop and release a proper sequel to our love-child, Kaptain Brawe, and to develop it to the highest production standards and in cooperation with one of the genre’s biggest living game designer legends!
Frontmen Studio from Belgrade has been the independent visual design studio of choice for the best of breed in the gaming industry. Key personnel at Frontmen Studio have a variety of backgrounds and over 15 years experience in illustration, modelling, animation and visual design for gaming.
The partnership with Cateia Games developed rapidly, as both teams share the same love and enthusiasm for high quality adventure games. This project will be the cherry on the icing, as the Frontmen people have a passion for creating gorgeous worlds and characters that strongly stand out from the crowd.
You already know the story! Getting the necessary funds to develop a high profile, traditional point and click adventure game these days, at the same time as keeping ownership of an IP we love so much, is next to impossible. This is where you come in! Because we have an excellent development team at our disposal and great internal development tools, we can finish the development of Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty for a fraction of the cost that other, well-known studios have asked for similar projects, while at the same time delivering top notch production values, a wonderful set of wacky characters and a great story by Steve Ince!
Most of digital rewards including the digital version of the game (Steam key and DRM free version will be provided) will be delivered by Q4 2015 at latest.
Some digital rewards like digital wallpaper set, digital comic that bridges the story between the original Kaptain Brawe and the sequel, backer forum access will be provided early on in the development process, while the first game in the series: Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World, will be made available to backers as soon as the Kickstarter campaign ends.

Risks and challenges
As with any project, even those that get funded through other traditional means, there are obvious risks involved. Our big advantage in avoiding any production challenges is a veteran team of developers and proven set of excellent internally developed software tools that we have been using daily for development of numerous both traditional core and casual adventure game titles.
Those two things and sufficient funds that we are asking through our Kickstarter campaign can vouch on our side that Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty will be developed at both the highest production standards and delivered on time!
If some of the higher stretch goals are met we might opt for a slightly longer development cycle to accommodate a lot more content being added while at the same time retaining our high level production standards that we are so proud of.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
No, OUYA only requires that other console and mobile ports of the game wait 6 months, while PC, Mac and Linux versions can be released on day one.
Since these ports take time to develop and test anyway, it's basically not a restriction, it just puts OUYA on top of the port priority list.
When we say "Apple TV" support we mean that the iOS version will be Apple TV enabled. And that doesn't just mean you can play the game via AirPlay mirroring iike most games do these days, it means we'll take special attention for the game to be playable in this kind of setup.
For example, we can make the iOS device act as a gamepad or touchpad that you use while playing Kaptain Brawe 2 on your TV via Apple TV set top box.
And it also means if Apple ever allows third party apps on the Apple TV (which we sincerely hope they do), we will certainly make a port of the game for it.
