A series of today's youth breaking free of what they were raised to believe, and exploring the darker more spiritual side of the world.
Hi my name is Madison Greer McDonald I am a photography student at Ringling College of Art and Design.
I began this kick starter to help me pursue a photo series that I have been working on for about a year now. The series I have entitled Dark Youth is about, but not limited to, the youth of today and there breaking free of what they were raised to believe what is “right.” I wish to tell stories through my photographs about myself and other people who have similar beliefs. How they live there lives and what they believe will become of them after they pass away.
I have noticed that my friends here in Florida who have the same views on religion and spirituality as I do, live much healthier, easy going lives, and do not stress over what others think of them, or what will become of them.
As I travel to New York this winter, I wish to meet more people with interesting views and photograph them to share their stories. Each Image will be entitled with their name, and a quote they live by.
I will be traveling with a DSLR, 35mm film camera, and even a Holga, each image will correspond with the mood that these very different cameras portray. Photos will also be taken in studio and on the streets of New York or even on location such as cemeteries. I will personally be styling and doing makeup as needed on my subjects. I will do all photo retouches and prints as well.
As my rewards mention, if you donate 10 or more dollars, you will receive a print from the series, with a thank you letter. Any smaller donations are just as welcome!
Thank you so much for your support! If you have any questions feel free to ask, and please visit my website to get a feel for what I do!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Risks and challenges I will most likely run into is funds, but that's why I have all of you! All funding will be going towards photography equipment that is rented, travel expences once in the city, (the more you donate the more I can explore New York!), and of course final prints, books and shipping costs.
If I do not meet my entire goal, the project will still continue, but may be held back to a digital form (on my website), the only prints that will be made will be as a thanks to the lovely people I meet and photograph in the city. So keep up the pledges so everyone can enjoy Dark Youth!
As I have been photographing street photography for several years, my knowledge on approaching people is the least of my worries. But as I begin picking out only a few from my hundreds of photos and printing them, I hope to run into little to no bumps such as color calibration, not running out of ink or paper before my shipping date of February and March! However I trust that being trained by highly educated and experienced professionals, will make the process much smoother!
