Activated Art is a collection of 3 dimensional multi layered geometric mandalas that I design, laser cut, and hand assemble out of wood.
Today, people all over the world have fallen in love with Activated Art, and I’m excited to share that, over the past several months, I’ve been designing new, smaller pieces and figuring out how to produce them in a more affordable way *without* compromising on the aesthetics.
Also, as a bonus for backing this Kickstarter, each mandala will come with its own guided meditation to support you in connecting to what most inspires you!

Either way, I’ll work closely with you to translate your dreams and inspirations into the perfect mandala.
My journey as an artist
I’ve been a creator all of my life, but if you would have told me just a few years ago that my art would be impacting people’s lives in the way that it has, I would NOT have believed you!
That all changed in 2015. I decided to leave the technology company that I had co-founded and built over the previous 5 years. I left with no plan other than to explore my passions, and a few months later I had the vision to create Ascension: Rising In Love.
Ascension is a 20 foot tall, 4,000 pound steel sculpture that creates a space for us to reimagine what it means to love others by first loving ourselves. I raised $37,000 on Kickstarter to build it in 2016.
The experience building Ascension was extremely rewarding for me. But it was actually after the festivals were over that I realized the true impact and purpose that Ascension had, not just on me, but on the tens of thousands of people who interacted with it.
When I returned home from the festivals, the emails and messages started pouring in about the profound experiences of love and connection that people had at Ascension. There were even several surprise engagements and a few weddings at the sculpture.
When I set out to build Ascension, I was simply following my own heart and pursuing my own dreams. But what I realized after the fact is that, when you act on your passions and bring your dreams into life, you end up positively impacting other people's lives in ways you couldn’t have imagined.
Art has been my biggest passion all my life, and it’s my intention through my art to express myself fully and inspire others like you to do the same, however that looks for YOU.
How Activated Art was born
A few months after Ascension was completed, my partner and I moved into a new home in Berkeley, CA. The living room had a big bare white wall that needed... *something*... so naturally, I decided to make something!
This led me to making the very first 44" Flower Of Life Mandala. When I created it, I had no intention to ever sell it or pieces like it.
However, when I shared pictures of it on Facebook, the response was overwhelmingly positive, and hundreds of people asked if they could buy something like it.
This is how Activated Art was born.
For the first year and a half, I focused on making larger pieces. However, not many people had the space or budget to buy such a large piece, and many have asked if I could make smaller pieces. The mandalas you see in this Kickstarter are the result of these requests and the new direction for Activated Art!
I’ve put a lot of thought into the best way to launch these new designs, and Kickstarter made the most sense for a few reasons:
- Since I don’t have my own laser cutter, it takes a lot more time and money to create new designs. I’d love to buy my own laser cutter so I can create even more!
- Laser cutting services are generally pretty expensive. The only way I can product the mandalas at the price points listed above is if I create them in batches. Kickstarter is perfect for this since I’ll know exactly how many to order from my suppliers.
- I’ve successfully raised $37,000 on Kickstarter for my art before, so I know how effective it can be for this.
Production & Fulfillment
I’ve been working hard to create a robust production and fulfillment process to ensure all mandalas are of high quality and will ship safely and on time.
Curious how they’re made?
Each mandala starts out as a 3D design that I create. From there, I send special files to my production partners who laser cut the raw sheets of wood into the patterns and shapes that you see.
Once the laser cutting is done, my team and I stain each layer of each part, and then glue them together. Each mandala has anywhere from 7 to 9 layers of wood, so it’s a tedious process since you want to make sure everything aligns. It can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 4 hours to complete a mandala, depending on the size.
Once a mandala is finished, it’s packed and shipped!
At my goal of $15,000, after Kickstarter fees and production & fulfillment costs, I’d have enough left to purchase a small laser cutter, which would be useful to make smaller mandalas.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge a few people who’ve helped me get Activated Art off the ground:
- My beautiful partner for your support, encouragement, and invaluable feedback throughout this entire process.
- Craig Wenaweser of Awakened Therapy for your wonderful testimonial!
- Adam of Geoknotic, you’ve been a pleasure to work with for the past year
- The Agapolis community (my home) for being so supportive in helping artists express their craft
Risks and challenges
Laser Cutting: We rely on external laser cutting suppliers to make the intricate shapes you see in the designs. If they go out of business or are no longer able to work with us, then that would put our production at risk. However, we have multiple laser cutting services that we are in contact with, and we've ensured that the economics work out no matter who we work with.
Economic viability: We've created robust business and financial models that tell us how profitable each mandala will be at various production levels. If there are any surprises, our profit margins are large enough to be able to absorb them.
Team: We will need a small team in order to produce and ship the mandalas on time. We've taken this into account in our models as well, and are planning to be able to scale the team up or down depending on production volume.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
