Who: David Alvarez, Photographer, Graphic Designer, Artist
Where: TrickProductions Studios located in the Wynwood Art District in Miami, FL
When: December 7th, 2012
Why: Every year thousands of artists and collectors alike descend upon Miami for the international art festival known as Art Basel. Everything from fine art to street art is on display, and the streets come alive as people congregate throughout the Wynwood Art District from gallery to gallery. A successful show can launch an up-and-coming artist and solidify some of the elite as masters of their craft.
This is where I want to showcase my art! What better canvas to paint my masterpiece, so to speak? Go big or go home right?! But there is one problem. Most of the gallery shows that take place are backed by big investors and sponsors. I want to show that you don’t need that. And what better way to do it then with a Kickstarter backed art show!?
A little about my art.
All my life I have been fortunate enough to have a very active mind during sleep, so I experience very vivid dreams that I often remember clearly and write down. These incredible dreams are where I draw most of my inspiration from. I love to explore surrealism and anything that blurs the lines between reality and the dream world. I also love HDR or High Dynamic Range photography because it allows me to capture what we see in our everyday life in an almost hyper-realistic way. Here are just a few samples of some of my work so you can get an idea of my style. I will update this page as I finish more pieces in preparation for the art show.
What your contributions will do.
Aside from playing a part in helping me accomplish one of my big goals artistically, your contributions enables me to do three things.
Transform my workspace.
Produce the actual art pieces.
And promote the art show.
I plan to transform my studio workspace into an art show gallery space. Which means I will refinish the floors and build temporary walls to hang the artwork. I will also install proper lighting to showcase the art.
The production of the artwork is by far the most important part of this equation. The large metal and canvas prints I plan to use cost a lot of money so your contributions will be crucial.
And finally, what is an art show without the audience? That is why it is important to properly promote the show. I will be doing everything from Internet and social media promotion to street teams and other creative promotional strategies.
In the end, I hope that my artwork speaks to you, I hope you are curious to see more, and I hope that you are just as excited as I am to see this all come together. This has been a long road for me but this is still just the beginning. I have more time, effort, and hard work to put in to make this all happen. I would love nothing more than for you to be a part of this too. Obviously I hope that some of you can actually come to the show and experience live what you contributed to, but for those that can’t make it, it will be my absolute pleasure to share some of my art with you any way I can.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
