MobileMount+ is more than just a mount...it's a Camera / Car Mount & Kickstand for smartphones and tablets! Read more
This project's funding goal was not reached on February 9, 2013.
About this project
The MobileMount+ is a universal Camera / Car Mount & Kickstand for virtually any hand held device with a flat surface, like smartphones and tablets.
Comprised of two suction cups and one threaded 1/4" 20 ball joint, the MobileMount+'s unique design allows for superior suction and versatility.
3 Uses in 1 Mount
The MobileMount+ can be used in 3 completely different ways depending on it's configuration.
If you decide to take the MobileMount+ apart you can easily attach the threaded 1/4” 20 ball onto any standard camera mount. Just simply unscrew the ball from the suction cup and screw it onto a tripod, camera dolly, or any other camera accessory that supports 1/4” 20 threads.
Keeping the MobileMount+ screwed together lets you use the mount as a car mount while using your mobile devices inside your car.
In addition to a car and camera mount, the MobileMount+ could also be used a kickstand for many devices. Keeping the MobileMount+ screwed together lets you use your devices in your home like never before. Whether you’re watching a movie or video calling your friends, the MobileMount+ will always be there when you need it!
Camera Mount Compatible
The MobileMount+'s main feature is a ball and joint which threads into camera mounts that have a standard 1/4" 20 thread. You can easily take the mount apart or screw it back together with the 1/4" 20 thread opening up your devices to a whole new world of possibilities!
Not only will you now be able to use the MobileMount+ in your cars, homes, and offices. Now you will be able to use the MobileMount+ on camera mounts so you could take your best pictures on videos on your mobile devices.
Whether you're using a camera tripod, dolly, or jib, the MobileMount+ will always be compatible.
2 Suction Cups
The 2 suction cups are another features that make the MobileMount+ so unique. The 2 suction cups securely attach most mobile devices that have flat backs like smartphones and tablets. Since most of our devices have flat backs the MobileMount+ will be compatible with many different generations of our devices, instead of just being compatible with one device.
Ball & Joint
The ball and joint on the MobileMount+ allows users to angle the mount and many angles while your device is mounted. The will help when you're using the mount on tripods that don't have a ball head. This will also allow users to angle their devices while using the GPS feature on their phone, making video calls, or just simply watching a video on their phone or tablet.
Mount / Kickstand
The MobileMount+ could be used both as a mount and kickstand. Since the MobileMount+ is so versatile it could be used as a camera/car mount with smaller devices like smartphones. When used indoors the MobileMount+ could also be used as a kickstand with heavier devices like tablets or readers, in addition to smartphones.
The final product will be produced in both the USA and China. Since there are different components to the mount, they have to be produced in different parts of the world. In order to produce the MobileMount molds have to be purchased.
Tooling (molds for final product)
The majority of the funding raised here on kickstarter will go to tooling for the MobileMount+. Tooling is essentially the mold that will create the final product. Injection molding is very expensive up front, that's why I need a community like kickstarter in order to pay for the tooling costs.
I also plan to use some of the funds to travel to the factory. By traveling the factory it will ensure that the project is staying on track.
Another large portion of the funding will go straight to producing the MobileMount+ in a large quantity. Producing several thousand units is very expensive and funding raised here will go straight to producing the MobileMount+
I will also have to pay to ship the final product to my backers who choose a physical reward. Shipping cost will come straight from the funds raised here.
Past experience with a large budget
I was personally responsible for overseeing a budget that totaled over $100,000 with the original MobileMount project from 2011-2012. All the expenses went were spent wisely, and I plan for the same with the MobileMount+. If an problems arise with the budget I will inform everyone of what is going on.
Thank you so much for your support!
Risks and challenges
After producing the original MobileMount here on kickstarter we learned what it takes to produce a successful product. Although there were many setbacks and challenges, we learned from our first experience and have ironed out most of the kinks for the production of the MobileMount+. We have taken extra precautionary steps to ensure those setbacks don't happen again. Before we posted the MobileMount+ here on kickstarter we finalized the design and set a strict schedule that we have been following since July 2012.
Since plastic injection molding takes patience, we have have allowed enough completion time for us to produce a beautiful and functional product. We want our backers to receive their rewards when we say they will receive them. In the unfortunate event that we feel we can't fulfill the rewards by scheduled timeline, we will inform our backers well in advance with a new updated schedule.
We have added a backer reward that will allow our backers to test out multiple prototypes and give us feedback. Since many problems may arise when the mount is distributed to our backers, by distributing multiple prototypes of the product we will be able to find the problems sooner. When the time comes to ship the final product we will have enough feedback from our prototype testers and that will ensure that the final product should be near perfect!
We have been working with the same production company for over a year now to produce the original MobileMount. We have chosen to work with the same company to produce the MobileMount+ because all the production difficulties we're fixed during the summer of 2012.
We have allocated funds in order to take a trip to the factory. That way we could communicate any problems in person and clearly explain any problems we may have.
We are committed to keeping our backers informed of what is going on with the project and we will be providing multiple updates every month. We will be providing more video updates because we know messages could be explained better when there is a visual explanation of the update.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
