Airships vs Aliens Board Game
This is a quick strategy board game for 2 players with one player defending the Earth with 10 Steampunk Airship miniatures while the opposing player attempts to win the invasion using 10 Alien ship miniatures.
While the game may have more copies made in the future, at this time only 50 copies of the game will be made as part of this KickStarter to help relaunch the ZN Games line.
Airships vs Aliens is a simple strategy board game but has complex strategies due to the use of limited command tokens and possible reinforcements of previous destroyed ships. You can see the easy to learn 2 pages of rules for the game here: http://www.impactminiatures.com/KickStarter/ZNGames/Airships_vs_Aliens.pdf
The Airships vs Aliens game has free international shipping.
Below is a Photoshop'd image of how the game will look. The top is the box cover and the bottom an example of a game in process (the Airships just completed their 2nd move).
The game normally comes with 2 Hammersmith Gunships, 5 Corsair and 3 Harrier for the 10 Airship miniatures to defend the Earth. If you would like to upgrade the ships to have one of each of the 10 Airship miniatures in the KickStarter instead in your box. Simply add $15 to your pledge to the Airships vs Aliens reward to upgrade to have one of each ship miniature. The 10 ship pack you can upgrade to is shown below.
The Miniatures Relaunch Project
Chris Bledsoe was a bright light in the miniatures gaming community. He helped create rules for Warzone, Chronopia, Mutant Chronicles, and Crucible. He had key roles at both Heartbreaker and Ral Partha. In 2001, he opened ZN Games to pursue starting his personal dream of creating his own miniatures and games. However just as he could get started, Chris passed away from cancer in 2002.
Chris's story was a powerful one to me as I have long hoped if anything happened to me that the work I've done on Impact! could continue. I've been in discussions with Chris's father (Kevin) and he has agreed to work with Impact! to return Chris's ZN Games line of miniatures to production. .
The funding goal of $5000 will allow us to bring back 41 of the original ZN Games miniatures to retail production along with 1 new figure from the Goblinaid campaign. We selected a mix of fantasy adventurers and airships for the starting miniatures. More figures will be added to the KickStarter with stretch goals when reached.
Kevin Bledsoe and Impact! have also agreed to establish after the KickStarter is over a Pay-It-Forward memorial in Chris Bledsoe's name. 10% of the sales of any of these figures made by Impact! after this KickStarter will be used to fund other miniature KickStarters so that Chris' love of miniatures can help other companies successfully fund their dreams of creating miniatures. We will regularly report in the comments of this KickStarter the amounts in this fund so it 100% transparent.
We want your feedback, so please leave comments. We plan to engage our backers and would love ideas for what figures should be unlocked next as stretch goals.
The miniatures are provided unpainted in Trollcast resin. The miniatures might require light clean up and some assembly (although we did our best to keep the figures with as few pieces as possible). The miniatures will come in two sizes. The part numbers starting with 22, 23 or 33 are fantasy figurines at 28mm scale. The part numbers starting with 32 are the airship figurines at 6mm scale. To see the scale of all the miniatures look farther down for an image of all the miniatures next to each other. All miniatures other than the Barricades, Wishing Well, Chaos Die and the Blood Reaver Arc will come with plastic bases (32-001 and 32-002 also have integrated bases on the miniature). In the case of all the Airships the bases will be flight stands (all the Airships are designed to use flight stands).
Here is the list of all the miniatures currently unlocked for this KickStarter and the point cost of each one.
I realize that the point chart does not help you understand the size of each one so the following image is provided to show scale. The Southland Barbarian appears multiple times in the image as it is 28mm scale to the eye from the base (so is a perfect 28mm scale guideline). If you want to see a larger easy to see image of the scale image below just click on it.
Selecting your rewards
The different reward levels give you a number of points to spend on the figurines. You select a reward with the number of points that you desire and then when you complete the pledge manager you will be able to select exactly the miniatures you want and only the miniatures you want to spend your money on (so you get the most bang for your reward dollars). You will pick your specific miniatures through a pledge manager sent to you about one month after the KickStarter ends.
Every $2000 we will unlock the another of the miniatures from the ZN Games line to bring it back into production. There are over 400 of them so we do not see us running out of stretch goals (but one can hope)
Every $10000 up through $50000, we will add more free points to all the reward levels that say they received free points with stretch goals.
A word from Kevin Bledsoe (Chris Bledsoe's father)
"In late 1999 when Chris was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma he soon became unable to work. He came home from Cinncinnatti where he worked for Ral Partha to live with me. He brought with him a dream of having a miniatures company of his own. We proceeded to make that dream a reality. With lots of help from friends and family and some very talented artists and sculptors, ZN Games took shape. Things were happening but not fast enough. Chris had a love for all things miniature and games in particular. His work on Crucible: Conquest of the Final Realm shows his creative insight on gaming. Since his passing in August 2002 I have strived to keep his dream alive but it has been a long road without his genius. With the help of you the backers and Impact! Miniatures, I believe we can do it. Thank you Kevin Bledsoe."

Last but definitely NOT least
There is one major way that KickStarters are successful: Social Media. If you want to help us fund and then hit all these stretch goals, please take a few moments to share the project on Facebook, send out a tweet on Twitter or start a thread on your favorite forum to discuss the project. Let the people know we are here so the project can be as successful as possible.
Finally, thank you in advance for backing and helping support our project!
Tom and Chris @ Impact!
Impact! Miniatures believes in Kicking it Forward and we pledge to back other KickStarters with 5% of the profit of this KickStarter (just see our # of projects backed so far ... we take this seriously!) http://kickingitforward.org
DISCLAIMER and TROLLCAST resin details:
Specs: Trollcast is a hard (75D) heat resistant plastic resin. It is much harder, and tougher, than normal resin. Trollcast can withstand 320F, and can handle prolonged exposure at 150F with ease (so our Australian friends should not have any problems during the summer). It can be super-glued together, and takes standard miniature paints easily (we recommend you might want to wash the figures first to remove any mold release agent that might still be on the miniature.)
Safety: Trollcast is very safe ... so why you ask do we include a safety section to our KickStarter? We had a person buy a Trollcast figure and stick it into direct flame over his kitchen stove to "soften" it so he could modify it. As would be expected with any item you stick into flame ... it caught fire ... which resulted in him reporting the product to the United States Consumer Product Saftey Commission and us promising that on all future sales we would make sure we tell our customers to please not light their toys on fire. So here goes: Trollcast should never be exposed to direct flame. Other than this, Trollcast has no special safety precautions, the dust in non- carcinogenic. However: all material dusts will irritate the lining of the lungs, and make existing conditions worse, so we recommend wearing a dust mask. Better safe than sorry! Trollcast is safe to expose to INDIRECT heat. Unlike many plastics (PVC etc.) it does not give off toxic vapours. Heating Trollcast to 320F from indirect heat is safe, and a good way to soften the material in order to reposition parts (then plunge into cold water to set). AGAIN DO NOT EXPOSE TROLLCAST to an open flame. Heck.. don't expose any resin or plastic toy from any company to direct flame. It is just a REALLY bad idea okay.
Risks and challenges
The largest challenges have already been overcome. We have the finished sculptures for the project. The only remaining obstacle would be something disastrous happening to our resin caster, which would require finding a new caster. However, given our multi-year working relationship, that should be in the long odds category.
Given that we already successfully handled 5 resin miniatures projects (over 200 new figurines) we have learned the most important lessons we needed to ensure this project is a success.
Also our previous 3 completed miniatures KickStarter delivered on time (Fantasy Football Ogres) and 2 months early (Asian Chibi and Gaslight Chibi), we are confident in our ability to deliver this project.
For full disclosure, we currently have three outstanding KickStarter for new dice suitable for use with Dungeon Crawl Classics, Pony Chibi miniatures and Fantasy Football miniatures. All of these projects are in motion and should be fully shipped out before these figures should be ready for shipping so there should be no problems with timing due to our other projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
