This is our FIFTH chibi miniatures project. At conventions we are frequently asked when we will be making more core fantasy miniatures. So we wanted to use this KickStarter to expand this line. We are starting with a baker's dozen of new miniatures to bring in a mix of new dungeon monsters. This is a small set but we already have plans for being able to expand it with stretch goals.
We want your feedback, so please leave comments. We plan to engage our backers and would love ideas for dungeon monsters that you think need to be stretch goals.
The miniatures are provided unpainted in spincast resin. The miniatures will require light clean up and some assembly (although we did our best to keep the figures with as few pieces as possible). The basic miniatures will normally be 30mm tall to the top of the figurine's head and large figures wlll be 40mm or larger in height with the total height listed next to the figure's name.
Selecting your Rewards
The different reward levels give you a number of points to spend on the figurines. You select a reward with the number of points that you desire and then when you complete the pledge manager you will be able to select exactly the miniatures you want and only the miniatures you want to spend your money on (so you get the most bang for your reward dollars). You will pick your specific miniatures through a pledge manager sent to you after the KickStarter ends.
Here is the list of all the miniatures currently unlocked for this KickStarter.
We have received from Juan our 3-D sculpt images for the first few miniatures. Wanted to share them with everyone. The Wise Sensai chibi we already sell is in the image for scale comparison.
Walking in a Chibi Wonderland ($20 bound softcover add-on / $15 PDF version / $30 for both)
Over the last 4 Chibi KickStarter projects, we have had people ask us ... if you make an art book of Lorraine's awesome Chibi art ... I'd love to get it. We have created a 40 page full color art book of all of Lorraine's art that became a miniature (about 180 pieces of art in the book). You can get the book as an add-on only (no points for this due to the cost of printing it). A bound softcover version of the book is a $20 add-on. A PDF version is an add-on for $15. You can get both the softcover and PDF for $30 add-on. Not only is the book filled with Lorraine's art but also includes comments from Lorraine and Impact! about the inspiration for the art and miniatures made from the art. (Note: if you get the PDF the images are still the property of Impact! and Lorraine Schelter and may not be used for commercial purposes without both of their permission).
Chibi World RPG rules ($10 add-on / $12 add-on w/module) (both are free with pledges of $100 or more)
Special Chibi Miniatures
The Trucker (30mm - $4 add-on) (points cannot be used to get this figure in your reward)
The Trucker is not really a monster but he seems to land himself around them a bit too frequently. We are working on producing this miniature for a special project and are able to offer him to the backers at a discount from what the miniature will cost when it is in our store at the normal $5 price.
Chris Adkerson and Tom Anders are the owners of Impact! Chris is a logistical and product development partner and Tom handles all the nuts and bolts to make the company run (web development, taxes, bookkeeping, inventory, shipping, etc.) You may see comments from either of them from the Impact! account.
Lorraine Schleter is the amazingly talented artist who turns our descriptions into the incredible Chibi art that we use to design the sculptures.
Juan Miguel López Barea is the equally talented digital artist who creates 3-D sculpts. He sculpted many of the new figures.
Nick Kelsch and Velvet Mark Keenan are two physical sculptors who did several of the miniatures in the starting 13 for this KickStarter.
Last but definitely NOT least
There is one major way that KickStarters are successful: Social Media. If you want to help us fund and then hit all these stretch goals, please take a few moments to share the project on Facebook, send out a tweet on Twitter or start a thread on your favorite forum to discuss the project. Let the people know we are here so the project can be as successful as possible.
Finally, thank you in advance for backing and helping support our project!

DISCLAIMER and spincast resin details (Trollcast):
Specs: Trollcast is a hard (75D) heat resistant plastic resin. You might find some small bubbles on the underneath side of the miniatures from the spincast process but we do our best to keep them away from the miniature. Trollcast is much harder, and tougher, than normal resin. Trollcast can withstand 320F, and can handle prolonged exposure at 150F with ease (so our Australian friends should not have any problems during the summer). It can be super-glued together, and takes standard miniature paints easily (we recommend you might want to wash the figures first to remove any mold release agent that might still be on the miniature.)
Safety: Trollcast is very safe ... so why you ask do we include a safety section to our KickStarter? We had a person buy a Trollcast figure and stick it into direct flame over his kitchen stove to "soften" it so he could modify it. As would be expected with any item you stick into flame ... it caught fire ... which resulted in him reporting the product to the United States Consumer Product Saftey Commission and us promising that on all future sales we would make sure we tell our customers to please not light their toys on fire. So here goes: Trollcast should never be exposed to direct flame. Other than this, Trollcast has no special safety precautions, the dust in non- carcinogenic. However: all material dusts will irritate the lining of the lungs, and make existing conditions worse, so we recommend wearing a dust mask. Better safe than sorry! Trollcast is safe to expose to INDIRECT heat. Unlike many plastics (PVC etc.) it does not give off toxic vapours. Heating Trollcast to 320F from indirect heat is safe (say on a piece of foil on a cookie sheet in an oven), and a good way to soften the material in order to reposition/bend parts (then plunge into cold water to set). AGAIN DO NOT EXPOSE TROLLCAST to an open flame. Heck.. don't expose any resin or plastic toy from any company to direct flame. It is just a REALLY bad idea okay.
Risks and challenges
The largest challenges have already been overcome. We have finished the concept art and paid for the sculpting for the project. The only remaining obstacle would be something disastrous happening to our resin caster, which would require finding a new caster. However, given our multi-year working relationship, that should be in the long odds category.
Given that we already successfully handled 4 previous Chibi miniatures projects (200+ new figurines) we have learned the most important lessons we needed to ensure this project is a success.
Our last 3 Chibi projects have been delivered between 2 month early and 2 months late so no major delays wondering if you will ever get your miniatures.
For full disclosure, we currently have three outstanding KickStarter for new dice suitable for use with Dungeon Crawl Classics, Fantasy Football miniatures, and Earthdawn miniatures. All of these projects are in motion and should be fully shipped out before these figures should be ready for shipping so there should be no problems with timing due to our other projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
