Platypus "goblin" team added to $29,000 Stretch Goal

Posted by Impact! Miniatures (Creator)

Based on comments and feedback ... we've had a lot of requests for a Goblin team.  The problem is that the budget and more importantly the time required to create an entire Goblin team is just not feasible in the budget of the KickStarter (or if we want to make sure we delivery by the promised delivery date).

However ... I have had several backers ask if we could do something with the Platypus figures that Impact! currently has in metal.   So after much consideration of options on the best way to do it ... we offer the Platypus "goblin" team.   Each Platypus is 22mm from base to eye ... which is a great Goblin height and they are more beefy.

The Standard team will contain enough components to make 20 different Platypus players.   And as requested ... the Deluxe team will include 2 Tantors for Big Guys.    We will also unlock at $29,000 an add-on pack to get 6 pewter figurines for $14 that could add some beasts to your Platypus team for a different play style.

Now full disclosure ... 95% of this team was sculpted by Patrick Keith and it looks really sharp.   I've spent the last few days coming up with some conversions that we could cast for ball & chain and pogo platypuses.   I'm happy with the pogo ... I think it looks good.   The Ball & Chains ... okay I went for fun sculpts with what I have the talent to create.   Could they be better if professionally sculpted ... oh yeah ... not a question ... but where I lacked still I tried to add fun and character by using an Ogre Skull and solid metal footballs as the items being swung.   So full disclosure on those items has been giving.   I also converted a couple heads to being wearing bomber googles and one with an eye patch ... just to give you some variety with the head options.

Final team will have the following parts (as pictured below)

  • 16 Bodies
  • 2 Pogo Bodies
  • 2 Swinging Ball Bodies
  • 18 Tails
  • 2 Bomber Tails
  • 12 Normal arms (3 variants with 4 of each)
  • 2 Hunting Knife arms
  • 2 Chainsaw arms
  • 2 Swinging metal football right arms
  • 1 Swinging metal football left arm
  • 1 Swinging Ogre skull left arm
  • 14 Helmeted heads
  • 4 Outback Hat heads
  • 4 Plain heads
  • 4 Eyepatch heads
  • 4 Bomber Goggles heads
  • 2 Knife accessories
  • 2 Dynamite accessories

Note the painted images of the top are not part of the figures in the team (that is the image below them) ... but they do show the detail of the figures better for you to see what they miniatures are.

And the add-on pack that you can get for $14 will include the following 6 figures in pewter

I actually really like this team concept and am glad to add it on as the 20th team being offered with this KickStarter.  Thanks you backers for the suggestion.

And finally ... in case anyone is saying ... but Elephants, Lions and Hyenas are not Australian!   Yeah ... I know ... I know ... but its again a matter of time and money and options that can be done and cannot be done.   If I had more time ... I'd sculpts up a Dingo Thrower, a Tasmanian Devil and Kangaroo Blitzer and a Wallaby Lineman to go with the team and then also create a Koala/Drop Bear Big Guy for the team.   However ... that will mostly likely need to be another day and maybe even another KickStarter (maybe with a Goblinoid team at the same time).  ;-)

Great call on allowing leviathans. Much more fitting for an Australian themed team.

Though of course, one could argue only Dire Echidnas as not-trolls would truly capture the spirit of egg-laying freaks of nature ;)

Dang, I missed that campaign. Just looked at it and would have loved to pick up some of those. Oh well, maybe next time.

Good suggestion Carl. I don't like to take back things I offer ... so I'll offer the team with choice of either 2 Tantor or 2 Leviathans when it unlocks.

A Saltwater Croc is the biggest, scariest thing you'll find in Australia!
      Why not the Leviathan?

Thanks Anthony. I am trying to make this KS fun for the backers. I will definitely look into more options if we ever expand this team. We did an all Australian Football animal team a while back on KickStarter but the figures were pretty much all limited edition so cannot bring those back.

I was only planning on getting a couple miniatures, certainly was not looking to make another team. But this really amuses me (laughed so hard I nearly dropped my phone) so I think I will wind up getting it.

If you end up doing an Australian themed team, might I suggest pairing a thylacine thrower/catcher with the dingo? And a simple tail switch might be able to convert existing rats to numbats to increase variety in the team.

Clarification on the update ... the Platypus team would be spincast resin as well. The metal shown in the pictures are the metal masters to make the spincast moulding.
