From the four corners of the land come four pretenders to the throne, each claiming to be the rightful heir. As the four would-be Kings march towards the capitol, they gather their armies, preparing for battle.
One comes for Glory. One comes for Greed. One comes for Blood. One comes for Honor.
Will you summon the strongest army? - Will you be the first to take the capitol? - Will your magic outwit your opponents? - Will you be the last King standing?
King Down is an epic strategy game for 2-4 players, where each player allies themselves with one King, hand picks their army and goes into battle by competing to take down the other Kings and cross the board to victory.
Described as ‘the prequel to Chess’, King Down incorporates age-old, intricate and fascinating mechanics from ‘the Game of Kings’ but breaks all the rules by reimagining the classic pieces, introducing brand new characters, and including new spell cards, strategies, tactics and win conditions. King Down is a brand new game that will stand the test of time and last the ages.
"King Down is really its own game with new objectives and a very different feel. And it doesn’t hurt that it looks spectacular. Whether you like chess or not, King Down is worth checking out." GeekDad
"I can assure you this one, just like The Agents, is going to be a winner. The game is already pretty tight, quick, and highly entertaining. It’s both immediately familiar, yet fresh and new feeling at the same time." Purple Pawn
"Saar Shai's creativity and love of creating games that are both visually stunning and mentally stimulating is evident from the very start. Every detail seems painstakingly worried over resulting in a quality product that is one part game and one part art." Father Geek
"King Down has proven an interesting little game to play. It’s downright entertaining." Little Metal Dog
"It's a well balanced game. It's a nice, tight game. I definitely give it two thumbs up" Got Game Testers
“King Down”, all in all, is a brilliant idea. Grandmasters and newcomers alike would be remiss if they let it pass by without at least checking it out." Dad's Gaming Addiction
"King Down isn’t just a more beautiful take on chess; it’s a faster-paced, harder-hitting, more enchanting adventure entirely. King Down has the potential to become a new classic, expanding on a universe we thought we knew." Nerdspan
"This one seems really rather too cool to pass on by." Nearly Enough Dice
King Down features four unique Kings each with their own set of unassailable powers.
Each King has an army of loyal subjects, presided over by the enchanting but lethal Queen.
Each army also includes a brand new expansion of pieces known as ‘Keepers of the King’ - a motley crew of powerful but capricious characters.
Bow (a.k.a The Archer) can "take" pieces from a distance, without moving, while Beast (a.k.a The Beast) cannot move, unless it is taking another piece. Bash (a.k.a The Paladin), on the other hand, can move quite freely, yet he himself is taken whenever it takes. Block (a.k.a The Guard) cannot take, yet no other piece can take him down. As for Cog (a.k.a The Maester), well let's just say he's a very resourceful guy...
THE AGENTS is Saar's first game, released on Kickstarter in 2013, and followed up by THE AGENTS RETURN earlier in 2014. Set in a world of spies, secrecy and subterfuge, this tactical card game for 2-5 players appeals to both casual and hardcore gamers.
Saar Shai - Creator of King Down. Saar is one of those quirky inventor types, who not only has outlandish ideas from his armchair but also gets off his butt and works really hard to make them a reality. Two years ago, Saar decided to turn his full-time attention to his long-term love - gaming. Saar devised a unique, new mechanic known as ‘double-edged cards’ and designed a tactical card game around it. ‘The Agents’ was the unexpected success story of the Kickstarter gaming world in 2013, and with an awesome, supportive community spurring him on, Saar is thrilled to now be able to introduce himself as a ‘game designer’ when he meets new people at dinner parties.
Dream Catcher was founded by Rafi Ben Aharon and Nadav Shlomo Giladi. Rafi has more than a decade of professional experience in 3d animation, and has worked as an art director, character designer, 3d modeler and animator on Feature films, TV series and commercials. In parallel he practices traditional art and practical effects making, creating sculptures, toys and costumes. Rafi met Nadav at the premiere of one of the feature films he produced, introducing his ground-breaking Zombie movie. Nadav is a producer and a director, and recently presented the short film he directed at the Cannes Film Festival. Together, as Dream Catcher, they are even more than the sum of their parts. This is their first gaming collaboration and Kickstarter experience, and they are extremely excited and a little bit terrified.
With a fair bit of experience with print and packaging production and fulfillment and shipping under my belt from 2 successful Kickstarter Campaigns, I’m now stepping up my ‘game’ to go into miniature production on a mass scale for King Down. I know that manufacturing intricate, high quality Minis is a different beast altogether, and I’m being advised and mentored by some of the best in the business.
I have built strong relationships with 4 established, leading manufacturers in the Minis production field, with 1 front-runner for my final production. I have worked out a robust production and fulfillment schedule, allowing for any unexpected and unforeseen costs, delays and challenges (“expect the unexpected”) and have negotiated my socks off to keep costs down and tier pricing as low as possible.
The figurines will be produced in highest quality PVC, the industry standard, and will range between 28mm-35mm in height.
Risks and challenges
The greatest risk is undoubtedly the production of the Minis. The intricacy and complexity of manufacturing the figurines is the most challenging aspect of this project. And that’s why I have established relationships with 4 of the leading production houses for Minis in China. Although I am working towards closing the agreement with my first choice of manufacturers (an industry leader with an excellent reputation), I have purposefully got detailed quotes and plans in place with 3 other companies, as a back-up and safeguard should any issues arise. As always, I will be exacting with my standards and will take an involved, hands on approach to every stage of manufacturing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
