About this project
Community Supported Brewing
Bogus Brewing is getting its start by going grass-roots and we're looking for your support. We will be a small brewery, likely located in Garden City, Idaho and we'll be doing things in a way that's never been done around here. Here's how:
Bogus Brewing is Idaho's first Community Supported Brewery (CSB). Community Supported Brewing offers people the opportunity to purchase a "share" in their local brewery. This entitles you to a new batch of beer that is hand-crafted specifically for our members - every month. Not only are you getting your beer directly from your local brewery, it opens a dialogue between the brewer and the members. The path from farm to pint glass has never been shorter.
We also want to support local farms and businesses. From using local ingredients like honey and fruit, to donating our spent grains to area farmers, we want to be an important part of the community.
Small Scale Brewing
Even smaller than micro, we're bordering on nano. Some say that we're a little crazy to brew so small. We say there's a little bit more love that goes into each batch.
But what's really cool about this idea is that it will give us the flexibility to have a ton of variety and experimentation. We want to have something a little different on tap every time you come down to have a pint. Don't ever let your taste buds get bored!
Beyond Membership: Your Participation
We want to hear your poetry/band/stand-up routine in the tap room. We want your art on our walls and we want you to use our spent grains in your pizza crust or your farm. We want to have our CSB members vote on what kind of beer they'd like next month. We want to craft a custom batch of beer for your wedding.
One of our Kickstarter rewards even gives you the chance to be one of our Guinea Pigs. With all this experimentation, we'll need a lot of Guinea Pigs to test our pilot batches. More fruit flavor in the Blackberry Saison? Cool, we'll take care of it. You'll know what's coming up before anybody else does - and even have some control over what is next on tap!
As a small, Community Supported Brewery, we'll have the luxury of brewing some fun stuff. You'll be getting something new and exciting in your CSB membership every month. We'll be as experimental as the FDA will let us. Of course, we'll always have our flagship beers down at the tap house. What's more, we only use free-range grains and all our beers are vegetarian!
No, Really. What About the Beer?
Okay, okay! We've got three beers picked out to start with. They'll look a little something like this:
Down-Down is a pale ale, perfect for post-run re-hydration (or during?). Hard Guy is the first of what we hope will be many saisons. And Hip Check is a dry hopped imperial rye IPA - now that's a mouthful!
While we're thinking about beer, here's a few more that we're dying to get to:
- Northwest Red Ale
- Coffee Stout
- Blackberry Saison
- Sour Saison
- Ginger Saison
- Session (imperial session, anyone?)
- Gluten Free (we'll give it our best shot)
We are asking for your support to get the brewery off the ground. So, how does it work? Glad you asked. Backers such as yourself donate at whatever level they feel comfortable. In return, you can pick out one of the rewards to the right! We think they're pretty great. In the off chance that we don't reach our goal of $30,000, your card will not be charged and no rewards will be made.
Wanna know a little more on our rewards? Some are not completely designed yet, but a preview of the T-shirt and the cycling jersey is below. The ceramic mugs will be numbered and emblazoned with your name of choice, hand-crafted by local artist Rhiannon Touchette. We're super-stoked about the progressive Cycle Pub dinner and tasting as well. If you'd like to name one of our fermenting vessels, not only will your (or your company's) name will be displayed on the fermenter, our website will also show what is coming up in the [your name here] fermenter.
To sweeten the pot even further, backers at the $75-level and above will be included in the Founder's Club. We'll let you know what beers are coming up before anybody else and let you put dibs on special releases. Plus, all backers will receive an invite to the pre-opening party to see the facilities and sample the brews.
Please note for the CSB membership reward, that it is for in-brewery pickup only. Alas, it is illegal to ship alcohol.
We know, $30k seems like a lot for something we're advertising as so small. But by our best estimates, that will cover about 15% of the start-up costs. We feel like we've set a modest goal that will help us bridge the gap. With this initial funding, we'll be able to sign a lease, begin permitting and start working on your rewards. And the more we can raise here, the better the brewery will be.
Not only that, it will help us gauge whether or not we have the community support for our idea. We think it's great, but does everybody else? We hope so! If we're successful, we'll be up and running just as soon as the permitting process will allow.
Awesome. Sign me up!
Great! We're glad to have you on board. Here's the skinny: our $30k goal must be reached or no money changes hands. Once we reach our goal, Bogus Brewing receives the funding and we get to work on building the brewery and producing your rewards. So click on one of the rewards to the right and follow the steps. And thanks!
Wanna stay up to speed on all the goings-on? You can stay connected in manner of your choosing: Facebook, Web, and Twitter. Or, if you'd like to sign up for email updates, shoot us an email and let us know.
