The Underground: A Sam & Fuzzy Role-Playing Game is a tabletop RPG created by Damocles Thread Development and cartoonist Sam Logan, using mechanics built from the ground up and tailored to the unique universe of the Sam & Fuzzy comic book.
We've been working on it for nearly two years... but now, we need your help to finish it up and manufacture the physical copies!

Thanks to your incredible support, The Underground has not only funded, but added a ton of extra features and bonuses! Our gamebook has thoroughly expanded to include new lore, factions, species, and powers. With either option, you can choose the subject (portrait, pin-up, parody, etc.) and the characters (yourself, your RPG character, your favourite Sam & Fuzzy cast member, your pet, or any other character or living entity!) Or, you can live dangerously and let the artist decide! You probably won't regret it.
Our ART COLLECTOR tiers each include one huge, one-of-a-kind piece of Sam and Fuzzy artwork. The original 11x14 artwork for our gamebook's cover and kickstarter exclusive print are available, as are all four pages of our gamebook's special intro comic. And for those looking for a true stab at immortality, our CREATE A CHARACTER and CAMEO OF IMMORTALITY tiers allows you to design (or help design) a character that will be included in our gamebook as a sample NPC. It can be based on you, or an original creation. Sam Logan will draw an illustration of your character which you can keep... and in the case of the CAMEO tier, your character will also make an appearance in the Sam and Fuzzy comic itself!

Our game takes place on a divided Earth. Aboveground, humans like us live in a world seemingly just like our own. But deep underground thrives a secret, surreal second world of everything humanity can't handle: vampires and werewolves, robots and cyborgs, ninja mafiosos and squid samurai, rodent gangsters and cat monarchs, and plenty of other strange creatures and criminals both organized and disorganized.
Both worlds are secretly controlled by the Committee to Maintain the Status Quo – an association of powerful business owners and crime lords who force humanity to live in carefully controlled ignorance for the good of global stability. (And profits.) Anyone who threatens to upset the balance or reveal the truth is quarantined in the Underground by the Erasers -- the Committee's army of enforcers. The few inhumans who do live among humanity on the surface must agree to do so in secret.
This divided Earth is now your home. You may be an inhuman, who has known the truth since birth, You may be a human discovering it for the first time. Or you may be something in between. But this is the world you live in, and how you do so is up to you. Will you play by the Committee's rules? Or will you fight the power?
INTERESTING! SO WHAT ABOUT THOSE GAME MECHANICS?
The Underground system creates a world in which what you
notice and who you care about is as important as your strength of arm or
fleetness of foot -- where your ability to mentally deal with weirdness is as important as your ability to physically deal with force -- while still allowing for satisfying tactical chases and
(Translation into gamer-ese: we have a social mechanic that isn't just a dump stat or a turbo win. You should watch our project video for a thorough example of how it works, using awesome live-action ninja mafioso battles as a visualization!)
A simple roll-over system means characters and their ability to influence their world can grow as they delve further into the mysteries and power politics of the Underground.
(Translation: There is a leveling/experience mechanic, but not one that renders conflict between the haves and the have-nots pointless. Having friends and a good plan is a better idea than pure character optimization, not that a little CharOp ever hurts.)
But one cannot game with intrigue and relationships alone! The Underground provides a broad plethora of factions and species to deal with. Ninjas, vampires, werewolves, dinosaurs, robots, cuddly animals with flamethrowers, cybernetic pangolins, and countless other critters are available for all of your modern fantasy/horror/action/comedy needs. Much like the stories in the comic itself, the tone of your game can be played serious, goofy, or anywhere in between.
We’ve tried to make the mechanics feel like the Sam and Fuzzy web comic we all love. Sometimes that means learning valuable lessons about life goals, responsibility and helping others. And sometimes that means wearing a sombrero while beating the crap out of gerbils in leather jackets. We hope you enjoy!

Printing professional, high quality books is a costly and serious undertaking. Most of the goal will cover creating the gamebooks and rewards, freighting them to us and then mailing them to you. The remainder covers the manufacturing of our other rewards, as well as Kickstarter fees and taxes.

Risks and challenges
The primary challenge which has already been overcome is translating the deep world of the Underground into mechanics suitable for a role-playing game that faithfully translate the comic in a way that make sense and is balanced.
