About

Kraden's Crypt is a physics influenced co-­op dungeon crawler video game for up to four players. This is not a regular rogue-like game: In Kraden's Crypt, you control your weapons by changing their momentum with mouse movements (or by swinging the gamepad thumbstick).

You can wield hammers, bows, swords, shields and many spells. Each of these weapons has its own unique combat mechanics.

Swords, for example are fast damaging weapons, which require less momentum. But you can easily become overwhelmed by multiple foes.

Hammers are two handed, but can deal massive knock-back and damage to multiple enemies.

Other physics elements are also factored into your attack, such as player speed, weapon swing speed and enemy speed.

The game can be played with keyboard/mouse, and dual analog gamepads. The controls are drag based, so you will apply a force to your weapon by moving the mouse or your control analog stick. Learning to time your swings is crucial if you want to progress through a series of randomly generated dungeon floors.

Play the game solo or in co-op mode with your friends.  As you progress through each level, you will find small quests, stories, shops and countless creatures. It's up to you to decide the best route to take to increase your odds of reaching Kraden.

You have been exiled by Kraden, a mysterious entity that lurks in the depths of the crypt. You don't know how and why you ended up in this place. At this moment, you barely even remember who Kraden is. But you know you have got to find him, and figure out why you have been banished. Expect many challenges on your way, gradually increasing with each level, with greater risks but ever increasing rewards.

Your goal in the game is to reach the top level of the crypts, and confront your ultimate tormentor.

We've had enough of button smashing games, so we are bringing more emphasis on momentum driven battle mechanics and action style game play to the rogue-like genre.

If this Kickstarter campaign is successful, Kraden's Crypt will be released by mid 2015.

Our current target platforms are Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Our progress since the game's initial inception shows that we have the ability to produce the game. With this Kickstarter we are putting our reputation on the line, but we are confident that with funding, we can achieve our goals.

The founders of this idea, Sam and Peter Foster, are illustrators and animators.  They have always had a passion for interactivity and bringing things to life.  It was only natural to turn to games as an art form, and the accessibility has made it possible.

Ian Hern and Claudio Dos Santos have developed small games in the past and have several years of experience in development backgrounds.

Brett­ (Dizzy Chok) Coop is our audio composer for the team. He has several years experience of in the field of music composition and is currently studying music at university.  He has been with us during most of development and works part time on the project.

From its conception the game has been developed for 2 years, with the team gradually expanding until it reached 5 people in March 2014. We have been making significant progress since we have established our ideal team size and are confident the team has all the skills required to deliver.

Shops!  Spend those hard earned duckats.

Item Buffs!  Currently, armour only affects how much damage you take and your speed, but we want to add things like increased mana regeneration as well as speed and damage multipliers.

More Bosses!  We want to cram as many interesting and different monsters, rooms, and bosses into this game as we can.  This is where the game shines so we really want to focus here.

Character progression! Currently, your character only progresses by getting better equipment. However, we are working on different ways of adding perks or skills while at the same time allowing you to change your load out without being heavily penalised.

Mini-Quests!  Single room quests and puzzles that tie in with the plot and help with the pacing.

Online co-­op! Currently, we only have couch co-op implemented. We understand that the online mode will take time to be implemented, and a lot of dedication from our programmers. That's one reason why we need your support, so everyone can stay 100% committed to this game.

We want to establish a community who have been looking for a game like Kraden's Crypt. This means that we'll keep an eye out for your feedback. If you want to take a bigger role in the game development, there are backing options that will allow you to design weapons, enemies, and even bosses.

Risks and challenges

We are a very frugal group and, given our current rate of progress, if we make the goal there is no reason why we shouldn't finish the game.

We have never produced a game together before, but Ian has already published a game and between us we have all the skills required to get this game out the door.

We are hoping to get onto Steam as our main distribution channel, if this does not happen we will have to find an alternate way to distribute. We are not worried as there are lots of other options that we can look into.
