Trekkayak is not just a product but rather a concept. To trek one way and return kayaking. To cross a lake or a river once you stand on the shore looking at the other side. And the concept sets the standard. It must be ultra-light, safe, durable and designed to last. Small as a tent when deflated and made by the best materials available.
The current Trekkayak is the result of a number of prototypes and tests. We decided to make a catamaran because of stability, buoyancy, and directional stability. We made the two hulls in a two-layer design with an outer fabric in Cordura and an inner bladder of polyurethane to provide durability, rigidity and ease of replacement or repair. We made the trampolin detachable and located above the water line to avoid users getting wet or cold when using the Trekkayak in cold water.
And above all, we designed the whole Trekkayak to be small enough when deflated to resemble a trekkers tent and lighter than 3 kg (6,5 ibs). After all, trekking and kayaking means you carrying your Trekkayak.
We can make it smaller, or larger depending on the intended purpose. The modular design means that the hull, the bladder and the trampolin is replaceable and you can change at will. We can use extreme light weight fabrics for those carrying long distances or extremely durable fabrics such as kevlar for those kayaking in rough rivers.
We can make tons of add-on features such as spray decks, clever attachment systems, motor mount or even a sail rig. Time and our customers will tell. Because a truly useful outdoor product needs to be influenced by its users. That is why we are always open to ideas and suggestions.
Weight and size
Weighing in below 3 kg or just over 6 lbs Trekkayak is truly light-weight. The length, once inflated, is 3 meters, and the width is just below 1 meter. When deflated it fits smartly in a bag the size of a tent or sleeping bed.
The two hulls have an outer fabric and an inner bladder. The outer fabric is made of durable and tough genuine Curdura.
The inner bladders are made of durable and light thermoplastics and with a special inflator valve fitted.
The trampolin is made of the same Cordura fabric as the hulls and is fixed to the hulls using a double Valcro ”crocodile style”. Strong, simple and easily detachable.
The valves are unique. No glue is needed and you can replace or remove in the field.
We use MOLLE webbing to attach today as future accessories. The webbings will be along the hulls and on the trampolin. The beauty of MOLLE-webbing is that since it was originally designed by the US Armed Forces there are literally millions of existing gear readily available on the Internet.
We are pledging for about 10 000 USD equivalent to 70 000 SEK. The majority of the funds will be used to order material and production for the pre- and main production series of Trekkayaks. A minor part, roughly 10%, is to boost marketing to help get the Trekkayak to the market.
We've been in the outdoor business before and have the experience to develop products, assign and develop supply-chain and secure high quality. Kurt was CEO for Poseidon Diving during a number of years with Jens working with marketing and sales.

Risks and challenges
The development phase is completed, with just add-ons and attachments remaining to be made. The product has been extensively tested and we don’t believe any development risks remaining.
We are entering the Release to Manufacturing phase working exclusively with Scandinavian suppliers and manufacturers. They all have robust processes for managing supply chain, labor relations, quality and other manufacturing-related risks. We are convinced there are no material risks in this phase.
The first pre-production run is scheduled to be completed by the end of December. There is always a risk that we won’t be able to meet the deadline due to unforeseen circumstances, but we believe that we have ironed out all the kinks thus the risk is low.
We expect to start shipping in April from our warehouse in Sweden. It should not take your desired reward more than a week or two to reach you as we use reputable forwarders, however there is a risk that it may take longer.
And finally, there is always a risk that some of our rewards will become unavailable quite quickly due to high demand.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
