Hi there. We're Will Woodson and Eric McDonald, a couple of full-time traditional musicians based in Portland, Maine. Will plays border pipes, wooden flute, and tin whistle. Eric plays guitar, mandolin, and sings.
We're both exceptionally excited to bring a new project to the musical community. We've been working together as a duo for about a year now, and we're ready to get our music out into the world in the format of a full-length album, entitled The Sunny Hills.
"The Sunny Hills" is the name of a great old piping tune we play that Will found in a nineteenth-century manuscript from the Isle of Skye. It's also a nod to the most recent spring and summer we spent together, traveling the East Coast while refining our collective sound. We've both got a lot of diverse musical experience and ideas, and the past year has seen us spending a considerable amount of time rehearsing and gigging. We're pretty thrilled about the music that has emerged. We've found our way well into the old tunes rooted in Scotland and Cape Breton, and we've been busy learning lessons from them. We like to think that we might have added a bit of something in return in our treatment of the tunes, and certainly our particular blend of wind and wire isn't one that is seen every day.
We Need Your Support
The music is ready to go, and we’ve booked time to record this December with Jim Prendergast at Mill Pond Studios in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. But we need your help. We’re two young working musicians; we’ve a pile of energy and ideas, but not a lot of money to invest in the expensive project of recording a full-length album. We’re asking for $6500 to cover the costs of recording, mixing, mastering, and reproducing the album. All funds will go towards ensuring that the album is the best that it can possibly be.
Every bit helps. If you're familiar with Kickstarter, you know that if we don't meet our goal by the deadline, we get nothing. Please share with friends, family, and anybody else who might be interested. In addition to being able to preorder the album, you’ll find a number of other great rewards that accompany higher levels of donation here on our Kickstarter page.
Thanks a million for taking a look at what we’re up to. We’re both very excited about this project, and every little bit will take us further along the way to making it a reality.

Risks and challenges
Recording an album, particularly when other people's money is involved, is certainly a challenge. That said, we're up to it. Both Eric and Will are established professional musicians, and Eric in particular has a great track record in the recording studio with a number of albums under his belt already. Additionally, we've got good people with us who are experienced working with traditional musicians and understand our peculiar needs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
