A hilarious short docu-comedy about a party, a Ouija board, a feuding couple, and a professional narrator thrown in to mix things up.
ABOUT THE FILM
Underpaid Narrator is a short docu-comedy produced by Alyssa Renzi and written/directed by Ben Holbrook. The film is about a narrator who is paid to attend events and talk about what is going on so others don’t have to. This particular event is a party for Travis and Roscoe for finding new jobs. The presence of the film crew obviously make for some very awkward and funny moments but things start to get a little strange when Travis and his girlfriend, Blair, break out the Ouija board and Blair’s dead ex starts to communicate with them. It is up to the Narrator to find out what is happening even if they don’t want to talk about it. It gets even worse when the ghost of Blair’s ex starts to hurl objects around the house. But things aren’t as they seem and someone quite unexpected is behind all the commotion!
"Before anything else, “Underpaid Narrator” was created as a tribute to several different filmmakers, whose films (during a period of personal artistic struggle) showed me that movies could be beautiful, while simultaneously being effortlessly whimsical. Great art could be born from both great struggle, and a sincere love for your audience. I wanted to share a situation in which the audience could feel directly involved. I felt that being formerly introduced to the characters would allow for a deeper connection to the action and overall storyline. Photos are intended to fill the story blanks and provide a sense of nostalgia, and the narrator is in front of the camera for the sake of having a direct human connection throughout the film, somebody who is always on the audience's side. Other elements, such as our relationship focus, are the weights that ground the piece even after the story takes a magical turn, and ultimately becomes satirical. “Underpaid Narrator” doesn't aim to deceive its audience into believing it to be reality. Its sole aim is to entertain by meeting the audience at the theater and personally showing it a good time."
Production will begin in early November and will take about three days to shoot in its entirety. The film stars Timothy Browne as our Narrator and we already have some very talented crew signed on to the project. More information about the film can be found at www.underpaidnarrator.com. After production and post-production are complete, the film will be submitted to a number of film festivals.
We need your help in order to complete the project. We've already raised some funds over the summer with mailings and our fundraiser party, and are coming to the Kickstarter community to help out with the rest. The money from Kickstarter will help with a number of things on our budget including paying and feeding our cast and crew, getting insurance, props/costumes, and later on submitting to film festivals.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our project. We hope you like it enough to contribute!
