DRM Free Update

Ground Branch has a DRM-Free version, and supports Offline play!

Some of our community has expressed interest in being able to play the game, independent of Steam. We are pleased to announce that, every backer of Ground Branch, will now have the choice!

We will be providing two executables:

1. A Steam Release (which uses Steamworks for online features such as matchmaking, VOIP and Mod Distribution through the SteamWorkshop) and...

2. A DRM-Free version of the game, which can be played without an internet connection, and used for gamers with LAN-only setups or that want to play the solo portions of Ground Branch without connecting to the internet.

Both versions are free of install limits, and we are not using services like SecuROM. The Steam version can be used for offline LAN as well, but must use Valve's "Offline Mode" if you plan to be without a connection. Either way, all current and future backers have access to both, in the event that they need to be away from the internet! This is great news, if you're deployed, or just want to more easily host a LAN party and play our game!

Gamespy is no longer being considered.

NP for you to add VOIP, but don't sweat it, either. I agree with Tim; I'll be using Mumble. If you have the time, I'd rather the investment in a Mumble plugin/hook to add the positional audio :)

@Tim - VOIP doesn't add any extra cost really. It will be a day or two to get working and debugged as it's already integrated into UE3 with Steamworks.

@ SerenityDivide - We will have to look into that. I'm not sure whats possible at the moment.

Glad to hear that you are catering to both Steam and non-Steam gamers.

Would you be able to also implement the ability on Steam to invite and or join friends currently playing on a multiplayer server?

Although not a necessity, it might be able to help Steam friends join up together quickly and more efficiently.

      Keep on! :D

Just a thought. Is VOIP really necessary for this game. I would think that the players interested in this game will be using Mumble, TS, Vent. If voip costs money to put into the game i say leave it out. Mumble has a great overlay w/directional sound. I know I will not want to be in a squad with a kid w/o a headset or mic..and if they have a mic...hop on comms. Just my thought.
