Ark Press is named after Ronald Johnson’s beautiful book Ark, in which he links visionary experience and faith in companionship to the source of our lives in the green world. Ark Press intends to publish limited edition hand-bound letterpress chapbooks (two-by-two) for two well deserving poets a year.
We believe in the companionship of writing. In addition to publishing chapbooks, Ark Press would like to sponsor a summer reading and writing workshop in the rural Appalachian town of Todd, North Carolina where we are located. We have invited emerging writers from across the country to donate a week of their time to write and teach in town. We will provide them with time and space to work on their own projects and in exchange they will teach a week-long workshop for the residents of Todd and the surrounding area. Each visit will begin with a reading by the author. Ark Press will produce limited-edition broadsides for each reading, which will help to fund further Ark Press projects.
With the money we raise through Kickstarter, we will make necessary repairs to our little desktop press, so that we can make chapbooks and broadsides in order to raise money to house and feed our visiting writers.
