This will be a collection of 10 short stories set in the various worlds of previously published A. Lee Martinez novels.
For years, I've been asked about writing sequels or series. My standard response is that there is just too much of that these days. I've never begrudged any other writer's choice to write a series, but for me, the thrill of discovering new worlds, of not knowing what to expect, has always been what fantasy and science fiction were all about. But with 9 published novels (and my 10th due out this year), I figured it would be a good idea to revisit the previous novels in the form of a short story collection.
This collection will feature 10 short stories, each based on a previous A. Lee Martinez novel. 10 novels. 10 stories. After doing some research, I plan on self-publishing this collection in e-book and physical copy (for those into that sort of thing).
For those of you playing along at home, the novels are (in order of publication):
Gil's All Fright Diner
In the Company of Ogres
A Nameless Witch
The Automatic Detective
Too Many Curses
Chasing the Moon
Emperor Mollusk versus the Sinister Brain
(Upcoming) Helen and Troy's Epic Road Quest
Risks and challenges
Having done some research into self-publishing (and having some friends who are knowledgeable in the field), I don't foresee any difficulty on that end.
However, writing is a time-consuming process and I have other obligations which could possibly get in the way. None really at the moment though, and none in the foreseeable future. I've recently started writing short stories more frequently, and find them satisfying and relatively easy to do.
About the only delay that might happen are health concerns or random accidents that screw life up, but those are always a possibility, right? So I see no difficulties in this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
