I've always had a thing for colour - even when it's deeply unfashionable I have to be surrounded by colourful stuff, and I think this is evident from my work as a textile designer and illustrator. As a teenager I had a bright red bedroom (not conducive to sleep so don't go there!) but as an adult I've had to compromise a little more with the decor!
My absolutely favourite colour is a nice sunshine yellow, so in 2016 I took part in the 100 Day Project, and created 100 Days of Yellow Stuff (#100daysofyellowstuff). I photographed everything consistently and the set of yellow things sat very nicely together on Instagram. Then at the end of the year I started to consider doing a 365 project. I'd often thought about this but it's really hard to stick to - especially if you choose to make or design something that's really time consuming - but this time I hit on the idea of continuing my successful 100 Day Project but extending it to a rainbow of colours (and of course doing it for the whole year).
365 Days of Coloured Stuff is the result - you can view all of the images from the project on Instagram using #365daysofcolouredstuff. This book is a celebration of a completed project, and contains the best of the images spread across 52 pages.
I hope that 365 Days of Coloured Stuff will make you see many of the everyday items around your home in a different light.
The Kickstarter project will enable me to fund the printing of a short run of the book. The image above shows an example copy - the project copies will be perfect bound (glued on left edge with cover wrapped around creating a spine) to look very similar to the image above. I will be using a local, independent printers to produce the books in the interests of supporting my community and other small businesses. The book will measure 170 x 170mm, Comprising 52-pages printed 4/4 on 170gsm Silk With 4-page cover printed 4/4 on 300gsm Silk Cover with gloss laminate.
If you're interested to see what the postcard pack will look like, I've added a mock up image below...
Risks and challenges
The printers have already been briefed and are simply waiting for me to tell them to go ahead! As always when working with another small business there is the possibility of unforeseen delays to printing time, or possible misprints in the batch, however I have allowed a little longer than should be necessary for dispatch times to provide a buffer in the unlikely event that this occurs. If there are any delays in production you will be kept informed.
