(Update: Rebooting on 21st June 2017!)
Hercules: Be the Revolution!
This is the biggest coolest 50mm watch you will ever own. Full glow in the dark dial backed up with a robust Swiss movement. Minimal yet sophisticated in design. A big watch for your big personality.
There was a global issue that need to be solved. Big expensive watches with unappleaing designs. There are a lot of people who like big watches BUT choose not to get them because they are sore to the eye every time you see it on your wrists. The dial colour is off. The design of the case is weird. There is so much cluttering on the dial that sometimes it's hard to tell the time in a quick glance.
Both we, Team Pier, and the watch community found it kind of weird that there isn’t a lot of watches that fit into a “big and simple” category.
The idea of HERCULES was born through inspiration from one of the biggest air planes ever built, Hughes H-4 Hercules. The plane was build in 1947 and it is so large that it is still considered an engineering behemoth till this day. The plane's 219 feet length is almost as long as a modern day Airbus A380. Its wingspan longer than a football field. Moreover it is so tall that it easily clears a 2-storey building with room to spare. Yet this monster is mostly made out of wood - a very simple material.
The Big Simple.
HERCULES went through a lot of long nights filled with imagination, designing, and testing. Ultimately, a simple pilot style design is what we really needed.
What ended up is that you see in this campaign. HERCULES - A 50mm stainless steel pilot watch. Not only it is big, its reverse Lumi is also a star of the show.
Minimalism has lost its meaning and excitement along the way to mainstream popularity. All of us know that minimalism is where you cut out all the extras and focus on its necessary elements only. In short, "less is more". A lot of watches in the market are minimalist in design, but does not offer anything more than just being simplistic. HERCULES does incorporate a minimalist design philosophy. However we wanted the watch to be more with less. We wanted it to SHOW more with less.
It is that in the dark where HERCULES shines the most when you least expect it. The whole dial glows to a beautiful blue when there is no light.
Massive. Enormous. Monstrous. We can’t deny that this watch is B I G! Made from the industry standard - 316L stainless steel. No doubt its 50 mm watch case is real tough.
Clean, slick and no cluttering of the dial.
The case is that built in such a way that it will sit comfortably on your wrists. On both big and small wrists.
The crown is made to be round with no sharp edges. Designed in such a way that the crown will not dig into your wrists every time you bend it.
Go Swiss or Go home. Instead of cutting corners and using some standardised Japanese quartz, We’ve opted in to give HERCULES more value by using a premium Swiss movement as the heart of the watch.
Being a proven robust movement, Swiss Ronda needs little maintenance and will still run even after months of not wearing the watch. Its timing accuracy is accurate down to the seconds for years to come. All of which are great advantages over traditional mechanical movements.
Made out of non-toxic and recyclable material. We are just doing our part in protecting the environment.
We will be providing 4 different finishes of HERCULES. They will be Stainless steel, sand blasted, gun metal and PVD black.
Watch strap and buckle colours are carefully designed to match your chosen watch model. These bad boys are fitted with stainless steel hardware along with premium grade textile material. Tough enough to handle daily abuse yet soft enough for you to wear all day long with its smooth finishing (i.e. no rough edges).

A few experienced creators have kindly enough to have shared their knowledge on shipping rewards to backers. We have already contacted fulfilment centres in different parts of the world to help us ship HERCULES to backers. So this project will be...
- Shipping US rewards from Washington, USA
- Shipping Canadian rewards from Vancouver, BC, Canada.
- Shipping EU rewards from London, United Kingdom
- Shipping Australian rewards from Sydney, Australia
By shipping in bulk to fulfilment centres, we will be bringing shipping costs down and therefore reducing custom fees and VAT. This is why shipping will be at a flat rate of SG$15 which is around US$ 11. For Asian backers, we will be shipping directly from Asia itself.
No man's an island. Pier watches is founded by us - Micheal and Edwin. We've met in university and always been mesmerised by watches. Being avid collectors ourselves, we realised that there were not much watch design choices for the people. They were the same old small sized/play safe designs. This is the reason why we wanted to make this big bad-ass Reverse Lume Pilot watch. We've talked to a lot of watch enthusiasts and they've all agreed that more organisations should produce a full reverse lume dial. Pier watches aims to be daring, to be different!
I, Micheal, completed my Business Degree and Edwin graduated in Bachelors of Economics. Dealing business internationally for 5 years, we are no strangers to business. We also have assembled a team of designers and engineers to back us where everyone is committed make this project successful. With this experience and this team, we have carefully selected suppliers who can deliver Hercules at their best and highest quality even at this affordable price point.
P.S. You can call us PW instead of Pier Watches ;)
Risks and challenges
As with any projects, risks cannot be avoided. This is our first time creating a project on Kickstarter. Lets be real here. We are not going to close a blind eye and say "there will be no problems".
We will be expecting quite a few unforeseen circumstances and issues. However we will keep a particularly sharp eye on our production and shipping which will be the biggest problems if any issues arise there.
This is why we took a year to prepare for this project. We have already met a few experienced Kickstarter creators. They have been kindly enough to share their experience and pin point issues that we might face.
We already have a well established and reliable manufacturing partner that is working daily with our team. We have also contacted and confirmed to have fulfilment centres to help us with our shipping. We have also have solid contingency plans to most of the issues that may arise. Alternative providers are ready to cover for the backers if any of these should not go to plan.
Do not worry, we will be very transparent and communicative to you on updated to the project. After all without you backers, this project will never come alive.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
