The adventures of a 3-legged super-dog! A full-color comic book based on a real rescue dog with a truly inspirational story.
"...before I knew it I was absorbed in the story... But what really seals the deal, from both Emko and Young, is the real heart that has been put into each character. With very little exposition or long screeds of narration or dialogue, these are characters that the reader immediately knows and loves. The Kickstarter was launched on Monday, and I highly recommend sticking down a pledge – regardless of whether you have kids or not." - Laura Sneddon,Comics Beat
"Come along for an amazing ride as Piggy the rescue pup takes an incredible journey from the mean streets to safety -- yet never forgets his humble beginnings, or the other animals who need a helping paw. Cool, classic, cutting edge ... this comic is a dynamic, unforgettable celebration of K9 survival, solidarity, and heroism. Animal lovers of all ages will rejoice!" - Julia Szabo, Pet-Reporter.com
"Piggy is the cutest! And what a great comic." - Megan Rascal, Vegansaurus
"I was lucky enough to sample the first issue of the book (the Kickstarter will fund two comics), and I was impressed right away. From what I can tell, this is Emko’s first work, a fact that doesn’t show in the script... Young’s talents for the book’s art is a perfect match for the story" - Chip Reece, Stash My Comics
"An all ages comic that speaks to both animal lovers and superhero fans casts a wide net to get into people’s hearts. A Piggy’s Tale is one of those remarkably inclusive projects that has a message as well as a story... Drawn by the influential webcomic creator Ethan Young, whose long-running project Tails has garnered a wide fanbase and gone to print in its first volume, the artwork on Piggy is bright, energetic, and memorable." - Hannah Means-Shannon, Bleeding Cool
Written by me, Tod Emko, and illustrated by the talented Ethan Young (Tails, Comic Book Tattoo), A Piggy's Tale is an exciting all-ages, full color comic that follows the adventures of a 3-legged super-pup named Piggy! Along with his extremely clever and mischievous feline sidekick, Simon, the duo seeks to stop all sorts of evil from befalling potential victims in NYC.
The real-life Piggy is my wonderful 3-legged puppy companion. I rescued him in 2009 during a veterinary campaign trip to the Dominican Republic; my friend and I discovered him hungry, limping, and hairless. He resembled a little piglet, hence his name. After many hours of surgery, medicine, and lots of love, Piggy made a full recovery and came home to NYC with me.
Piggy has been a very real inspiration to me, my friends, and other dog lovers who see all the love and joy this pup can bring. Some animals have the natural ability to seek out and comfort those in need. Piggy is a prime example. You can almost say he's a SUPER-HERO! I wanted to tell Piggy's story from an interesting angle, and what better way than with a kid-friendly super-hero comic?
Both Piggy and Simon are spokes-animals for Darwin Animal Doctors, an animal hospital in the Galapagos Islands that I founded with my friend and colleague, Andrea Gordon (who makes a cameo in this comic, too). Simon was the first patient of D.A.D., and yes, he also came home with me. So not only do Piggy and Simon fight crime in comic form, but they're roommates in real life!
We need your help to bring A Piggy's Tale to life. To complete 2 Full Color issues, we are asking for $10,000. The comic would then be launched in Spring of 2014. If you contribute to A Piggy's Tale, there are many rewards as special as this adorable duo.
As digital downloads, there will be a Piggy theme song, done by the very talented Rose Lovell. We'll also have a Piggy video game for iOS and Android, with unique downloadable content for contributors.
The video game is made by our creative team, set to finish by early 2014. It's a side-scrolling action game, and contributors will get background, weapon, and villain bonuses to download!
In addition to the comics, we'll have all sorts of Piggy merchandise, including buttons, stickers, tote bags, and t-shirts. How can you NOT want to wear Piggy's adorable mug?
Want the first issue in time for holidays as a gift? We have 2 contributor levels that gets you a signed copy of A Piggy's Tale #1 just in time for the holidays, along with some extra merchandise. It'll make a fantastic gift for anyone!
Another great reward being offered is a signed copy of Tails by Ethan Young. Ethan is my friend and fellow animal lover, but he is also a very talented cartoonist who is instrumental in bringing Piggy's adventures to life.
We'll hope you'll contribute to this KickStarter and help Piggy and Simon spread their unique and wonderful story. You'll be so glad you did!
