I have chosen to take full advantage of this opportunity to show the various mediums that I create in as a divergent coastal surf artist under one roof. I will be installing my art work in the barn and on the grounds of East End Arts on Main St. in Riverhead, NY for the month of August.
I chose the barn due to the rustic feel of the barn, the close proximity to the arts council, an aquarium, a riverfront , and a really big hotel with summer tourists attracted to the beauty of the East End of Long Island makes a great place to invade with my art work!
The overwhelming desire and passion I have to translate my observations and emotions that are induced by my experiences within my natural environment into art work has been with me since I was a young child.
I can often be found along the shore with my camera and a sketch book, gathering materials and stockpiling experiences to use in my art work. The colors, the lines, the flora, the fauna, the weather, the moon, the sun, along with the tides are all represented in my work. My pure enjoyment of the coastlines and the outdoors of Eastern Long Island continually provide me with inspiration to create and evolve as an artist.
I am currently working as an artist for hire and as a private arts educator with 23 school age students.
Showing all my various styles of art under one roof will give me the opportunity to share my love, passion, inspiration, motivation, and knowledge about coastal life through an artist's eyes.
I will have a well-lit sculpture of marine debris outside of the barn placed in such a way that it entice people to stop and draw their eyes to the barn.
The sculpture will be comprised of many of the various pieces of trash that I pick up while out on my treasure (inspiration, photos, driftwood, glass,etc..) seeking adventures. It is amazing the how much garbage and the variety of debris that is everywhere. I pick it up and encourage others to do also...everyday, everywhere, everyone!!!
The exterior of the barn will be the "gallery" space for my works on driftwood.
Entering in through the open barn doors you enter into an eclectic gallery and shop.
Many of the photographs I take while out scouring the shorelines I use in my multi-medium process. To me the allure of photography is the historic record it creates and the ability it gives me as an artist to show my view of what I value and that which inspires me. In my multi-medium process I crop my photos for optimal composition and then transfer them onto watercolor paper, pen and ink the areas I wish to highlight and then move forward to adding watercolor to the photograph. I strive to have a flowing composition, adding color, line, and texture to create art work that many people have called serene.
Oil & Charcoal Paintings Gallery.
As you can see I enjoy a multitude of mediums. If I had to choose a favorite right now it would be abstract expressionistic oil and charcoal painting. When painting with oil and charcoal I feel a sense of freedom, a lack of concern, and loss of control. To me it’s like being on auto pilot, there is little concern but to monitor, observe, and intervene only when needed. I have no set path when I proceed with my paintings. They take on a life of their own, evolving and telling a story as they develop.
In the shop I will have various gift type items i make. T-hirts I hand embellish with my art work, binned prints of my work & photographs, driftwood pieces, maybe a repurposed skim board, and who knows what else! Divergent thinker in the works!
By building a new body of work in the many mediums I work in for this show I will also build my portfolio with aspirations of gallery representation and new business adventures as an artist.
To me art is about the adventurism, the exploration and the constant discovery of freedom in the process of creating art work.
My request for funding ..
I have spent the last 5 months creating, collecting and building a new body of work for this solo exhibit. At this point I have used up all of my available resourses and with a series of unfortunate events I find myself looking for support. I lost most of my photo equipment in an unfortunate kayaking accident while out on assignment and shortly after that my 19 year marriage came to an end. With the ending of my marriage, the struggles of raising three children as a single parent, along with taking care of my ill mother and the latest, my large format printer that I do all my multi-medium pieces dying I am finding it extremely difficult to come up with the funding required to purchase the equipment and materials necessary to complete my project. Your contribution to Munaco in The Barn will enable me to purchase the equipment and materials I need to complete my project.
Where the 2950 bits of cabbage will go...
$1500 Large Format Printer and ink to be used to produce large scale multi-medium pieces
$210 Sigma Lens 70-300mm & filters. I was gifted a Canon body and am so grateful for it and the 18-55mm lens. With the addition of a telephoto lens I will be able capture and give forward many more images then the limits of only shooting with a wide angel.
$50 Extra battery... can't tell you how many times I missed a great photo opt because my battery died.
$60 Camera Bag
$730 ` Materials (paint, canvas, paper, mat board, glass, framing, & hardware)
$400 Rewards, fulfillment, Kick Starter and Amazon fees, Advertising,
If I raise more money then my goal I will use the funds to purchase a new computer because mine is dying of old age. I could use more camera equipment and paints because they are always in need.
I am very thankful that you have taken the time to read all the way down here ;) Donations of any monetary amount are greatly appreciated and if you can help with the spreading of my Kick Starter campaign that would be awesome!
I hope you will have an opportunity to visit the exhibition in person. I am incredibly grateful for your generosity and support!
Please come and celebrate!!! Opening Reception August 8th 6-9pm... bring everyone you know ;~)
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges I face with this project are time management, being at the mercy of Mother Nature, and creating a Kick Starter Video ...yikes...I don't like being in front of any lenses!!!
I will call on my family to help me out with life's other demands to help me accomplish more with this project.
The weather is out of my control and by the time you are reading this I will have conquered my fear of being on video!
