About

Why a feature film?

Have you been inspired by Bruce and Denise Morcombe and their family? You’re not alone. Millions witnessed their determination. They never gave up in their search for the truth about what happened to their son Daniel.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe have entrusted our team to produce a feature film that will dramatise their story and the story of the police who responded to their demands for justice.

For seven years the Morcombes endured a roller coaster of hope and despair, and their fight for truth and justice helped trigger a complex and thrilling undercover police sting that eventually brought Daniel home.

You can imagine how vulnerable the Morcombes must feel; to have their personal lives dramatized on film for all the world to see.

However, Bruce and Denise want their story to be told. They want no other family to endure what they have endured. The Morcombes have never shirked from anything they believe to be important. They are the stuff of legends, the stuff that makes heroes out of ordinary people.

That is why they have become one of Australia's most important stories. The Morcombes are now the leading advocates for child safety in Australia through the work of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. This film will help to increase the impact of the Foundation and its message.

It is also our hope that the film will celebrate Daniel’s short life.

Pledge your support

We are honoured to have been given this opportunity to produce the film. We believe this story must be told and we know there are many, many people who feel the same way.

So we would like to give you the opportunity to become a part of the film, to be a part of bringing this powerful story to the big screen not just in Australia, but all over the world.

 How it works

Backers, that’s you, get to pledge an amount and choose a reward. At the end of our 30-day campaign, if the combined total of all pledges meet our $ target, then the credit cards of those who pledge are charged and we receive the funds.

If we don't meet our goal, (heaven forbid), then the money is not withdrawn from your account and no rewards are provided. If we exceed our $ target, then the extra funds will be used to make the film even better - so keep pledging! All funds raised are used directly in the making of the film.

The rewards!

Every pledge (but one) comes with the reward of having your name or your family's name in the credits of the film. That’s right, there forever! We believe this is a wonderful way to acknowledge those who have supported Bruce and Denise Morcombe and Daniel's legacy.

Most of the rewards also give you two tickets to a screening of the film on release. Another one gives you a chance to be an extra in the film!

So have a look at the rewards list and choose what suits you. Some of the rewards have limits to how many we can offer, so don’t delay!

Together we can make sure this film is seen all around the world and that Daniel's story travels far beyond Australia's borders.

The Dream ...

Our target is $300,000 but our goal is to stretch this target beyond our wildest expectations. Feature film production is a complex process with many key stages, including development, pre-production, production, post-production and release. This $300,000 target is an important piece of the puzzle in ensuring WHERE IS DANIEL? reaches the big screen worldwide and to see the project through the tail end of the development phase.

However, our film's overall budget sits at between $7-10 million, and we would love to see a huge part of our film's budget secured by the very community that has been a part of the Morcombes' journey for so many years. Together, we're capable of bringing this story to life and ensuring Daniel's legacy is never forgotten... $300,000 is just the beginning!

So the exciting thing is if we achieve our target and then surpass it, we'll be able to expand the scope of the project, secure the actors this story deserves and increase our opportunities to share this film more effectively all over the world.

Your support, combined with other sources of funding, will help us get there.

Synopsis

When 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe doesn’t return home on Sunday 7th December 2003, his parents' lives are shattered in an instant and they find themselves searching the shadows for the person responsible for their son’s disappearance.

As time passes they’re driven to desperate measures in order to honour their promise to bring Daniel home.

A junior detective is handed a slim suspect file to review. What he discovers as he unravels the truth challenges every notion he held about truth and justice. He initiates an undercover operation and lures the suspect into a fantasy world of crime and corruption to encourage him to confess.

Tensions rise as the young detective gets closer to the truth and Bruce and Denise feel the cold grip of time distance them from Daniel with every day that passes.

The answer to eight years of hope and despair balances precariously on one moment of truth – will Daniel finally be brought home?

Risks and challenges

All movie projects face the usual risks of film and TV production but that’s where the power of a good team comes in - we have to date, and will continue, to minimise those risks through responsible production management, insurances, contingency plans and the combination of skilled and committed crew members across all departments. Our team’s collective experience across multiple facets of the international film industry allows us to identify strong opportunities for the film ahead of production and implement strategic decisions.

As with every film, one of our biggest challenges is coordinating schedules for the A-list actors we hope to engage with our film. This will be the one area which will dictate the possible dates for us to deliver the rewards we are offering. We’re going to do our best to coordinate everyone’s availability to figure out timing that works best for the cast.

With respect to rewards fulfillment, we will be staying in touch with you all throughout the project as we deeply value your interest in seeing this feature film come to life.

We'll be sending regular updates about our progress to all backers, so you’ll be the first to know about what’s going on.

Problems can arise during the production of any film which are beyond the control of the producer. These matters can delay production, cause an increase in costs and may entitle the completion guarantor to take over completion of the film.

Specific risks associated with the production of the film, such as injury to a lead actor or damage to film stock can be limited by maintaining appropriate insurance.

* REWARD CONDITIONS
Note that for the rewards associated with being an extra in the film, attending any special cast and crew screenings or events, spending a day on set or sitting with the Director in the edit suite, the reward doesn't cover any travel, accommodation or on the ground expenses. These will be the responsibility of the individual backer.

** Private screenings to take place on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday with specific cinemas TBD in relation to the pledger's location.
