Hey! I'm Ethan. I'm an actor, TV host and theatre maker. I am raising £10K to bring my 5-star solo show "Coming Clean: Life As A Naked House Cleaner" on a UK and USA tour (Manchester, Margate, Belfast, Bristol, Los Angeles, San Francisco & Portland, Oregon) in the spring and summer of 2018. After 25 incredibly successful shows (humble brag) in London it's time for my stage manager/sidekick Cath and I to hit the road and spread the stories.
The show is unique in that it takes place in people's living rooms and untraditional spaces like cafes, shops and bookstores. When the show is not in a public place a special email invite is sent to you 24 hours before the performance with the address (you will always know what neighbourhood the show is in before you purchase tickets) and you show up with your bottle of wine, find a cosy seat and I entertain you with my stories as my life as a naked house cleaner. But it's so much more than that. It takes a hard look at culture, desire, fantasy and vacuuming. All the things we don't talk so openly about. Except vacuuming. Everyone talks about that.
My goal from the beginning of the show was to bring a group of strangers together at every performance and put them on the same page by eliciting humour, camaraderie, and honesty. And holy shitskies, we have done it. The response has been phenomenal. Seriously, you guys, it's been a dream come true to have people share their stories during and after the show. (Introverts: Calm Down! Sometimes I ask the audience questions during the show and only those that feel like speaking do. No one has to say a word!)
Your financial contribution makes it possible for us to keep the dialogue and conversation about fantasy and desire going outside of London. Yes, the show is entertaining but it's my hope that it also inspires truthful conversations among partners, friends and even strangers long after the show is over.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US REACH OUR GOAL! Your financial support and cheerleading is invaluable. Please spread the word by posting this page on all your social media accounts and emailing friends!
Merci, Gracias, Danke, Arigato, Tack!!!
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?
Travel - A 7 city UK & USA tour requires train tickets, airplane tickets and a rental car for Ethan and Cath.
Room & Board- Although we have secured many free places to stay we will occasionally have to pay for an accommodation while on tour.
Venues - There are a few venues that will require an upfront fee. In addition to the small gifts we bring to all of our hosts who host us for free.
Marketing/PR - Ensuring that our show is advertised, written about and reviewed in key publications and online in every city is essential to building our audience beyond word of mouth. As well as printing costs for posters and other marketing materials.
Team Salaries - Stage Manager, Director, Producer, Writer/Performer
Props/Lights/Projector - A few of our current props need replacing. Two new lights for easy traveling and a small portable projector are needed.
WHO WE ARE
Ethan Mechare (Writer/Performer/Producer)
Ethan is the writer and performer of "Coming Clean: Life As A Naked House Cleaner." He has acted in and hosted shows on MTV, TNT, VH1 and HBO. Making an intimate and immersive theatre show like this is a dream come true.
Cath Royle (Stage Manager/Sidekick)
Cath has been working with Ethan as his stage manager/stooge since the beginning and has written some of the best lines in the show. Despite being one of life’s chief procrastinators with several scripts of her own “in development”, Cath has managed to work as a television producer on investigative documentaries for the BBC, Channel Four, Channel Five, Sky Arts and ITV. Ethan has told Cath that she can ride on his coat tails for as long as the seams will hold. Cath has also co-written scripts for radio and works as a chef (mainly for Ethan) when the TV work dries up.
Jill Patterson (Director/Co-Producer)
Jill has been working with Ethan for over a year to develop the show as Director and Co-Producer. She was hooked from the first time they met to drink tea and talk over the concept. Jill has taken the journey from page to stage, presenting a show where you can explore the real life struggles we all have with vulnerability, sexual experience and fulfilling our dreams. Recent credits include: Catch Me (The Musical) at Above the Arts Theatre, Leicester Square. Kiki, the Queen of Montparnasse for The Bastille Festival at the Drayton Arms and Catalyst Festival for Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Jill is also currently associate producer with Hyphen Theatre Company's the The Soft Subject (a love story) - Assembly Hall, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017 and UK Tour.
Risks and challenges
We have already planned hosts and venues in five of the six cities we are traveling to and we feel confident we will be able to continue to add shows to all of the locations. Venues/houses could potentially fall through but we will have a back-up house/venue in place.
Although one can't guarantee a sold out show for every performance we are ensuring that by hiring a PR contact in every city and/or placing targeted Facebook, Instagram and Twitters ads we will always sell out 80% of the capacity.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
