Hi there. I’m Erin, Type 1 Diabetic for 16 years.

I've spent the last four years writing a successful blog, A Diabetic Sailor's Logbook. It was named one of the top 50 Diabetes blogs in 2010. I've also spent the last three years getting 70,000 words into a memoir.
The Idea
I had an idea to write a book to encourage other diabetics and share my story. The book is an overlay of two stories. One is the story of my diagnosis and eventual acceptance of diabetes with all of the stages and crazy stories that go along with it. The other is the story of a five-day solo sailing trip I took last February in the Florida Keys. I was looking for a way to take back my life, which had slipped into the monotonous and safe suburban existence. I had stopped taking risks and looking for adventures. When I was diagnosed, I was warned I could not fly solo, I could not drive a big-rig, and I could not sail solo. That was reason enough for me to go. So I took a twenty-two foot Catalina from Key Largo to Key West, one hundred miles of open ocean and some pretty hairy weather along with it.
The Swag
I want you to be a part of the new readership, the ones who have a hand in publishing the books THEY want to read. You can effectively pre-order a book by becoming a backer of this project.

And as you pick up that book you might flip to the Acknowledgements page and want to see your name there in print for the whole world to see.

And while you’re sitting reading the book, basking in the glow of seeing your name in print, you might look up at your living room wall and think how great it would be to have a surf or sail inspired watercolor to decorate that blank spot, or even better a commissioned oil/acrylic painting by the world renowned Tony Spineto.

So go ahead and become a backer of this project. You know you want to. Just click on one of those links to the right. And thank you ahead of time for making this all possible.
