The Veg Yard will be an urban gardening business located in Denver, CO providing a lawns-to-veggies garden service including garden installation and maintenance. The Veg Yard will also offer a small CSA grown at our Clay Street garden, offering vegetables and flowers weekly to CSA members during a 20-week season.
Our mission is to increase access to nutritional and fresh vegetables grown and distributed in the Denver Metro area, while empowering community members to reconnect with the food system. In addition to increasing access, we will redirect crucial resources such as water and land from lawns to vegetable gardens. We will provide our lawn transformation clients with food growing systems that are functional and aesthetically pleasing and provide CSA members with a variety of healthy and locally grown food each week.
With our "Neighbor Share" program, we will partner with the Beloved Community Village in Denver to redistribute excess produce from our Clay Street garden and our clients’ gardens to community members who may not be able to access nutritious and fresh food otherwise.
Our startup costs include soil and amendments, refrigeration and vegetable processing infrastructure, seeds and seed starting materials, tools, and marketing materials. This fundraiser is solely for building our Clay Street Garden.
Risks and challenges
There is a lot of inherent risk in growing food for people, but we have several seasons of trouble-shooting and experience between us. In the case that our produce does not do well, we can supplement our produce for our CSA shares by buying from other local farmers.
With this initial funding, we will be able to operate for years to come with minimal yearly expenses. This Kickstarter Campaign will give us the funding and flexibility to learn each season and expand our business appropriately.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
