Hi! We're Erin and Allison, and we want to open a mac and cheese restaurant.
A place where you can choose from 10 different mac and cheeses, like a spicy smoky mac sprinkled with marash pepper or a super creamy goat cheese mac topped with toasted panko. Plus, we'll have tasty treats like homemade s'mores, peanut butter pie, local beers, and house-made soda. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
As it turns out, opening a restaurant is a gigantic (but rewarding) investment of time and money. We've spent the last six months and our life savings knee-deep in lease negotiations with crazy landlords, building permits, and oodles of red tape. To top it all off, McDonald's told us they'd have "big problems" with our restaurant name, Little Mac, forcing us to come up with a new name.
We then changed our name to Homeroom because it brought us back to a place in childhood where we used to goof off with friends and share food our parents had made for us. We also loved the double meaning of homeroom which could also be thought of as a room in one’s house—a cozy den or a warm kitchen where you’d sit over a piping bowl of mac and cheese with friends and family.
So where do you come in? Our location is a big empty shell, and we need to turn into a warm and inviting mac and cheese restaurant. We need help building basic things, like our kitchen. But we also need help with really exciting stuff-- like building a community table out of salvaged high school bleachers, or hiring the bike shop across the street to build us a custom tricycle for deliveries.
