"Album of duets"--The Better Halves are ready to du-et! "Tête-à-Tête" will be full of clever lyrics, harmonies, and fancy playing.
This is our first full length album together, and we are so excited! We have already started recording our album at Tommy Byrd's studio in Austin and it's going great! We will have Warren Hood add some fiddle and Sara Hickman will add some of her magic vocally once we get our basic tracks all down. Keyboards, bass, percussion, harmonica and cello will round out the sound.
For those who know our repertoire (and if you don't, clips of several of these songs are on the video) we'll be including "Wedding Vows," "Country Boy, City Girl", "Baby, It's Hot Outside" (a Texas parody of the Christmas classic), "Internet Date," "Different as Can Be," "Getting Nowhere," a brand new song called "The Captain and Mermaid," and instrumentals "Blue Angel" (by Los Indios Tabajaras) and "Flight of the Bumble Bee." (Rimsky-Korsakov), an original instrumental, and a few others. Our music is upbeat Texas swing/bluegrass with touches of jazz, folk, and even classical music. This album will be entirely duets (including the guitar instrumentals.) We keep hearing that there aren't enough duets in the world, and we are doing our best to help remedy that!
We really mostly need help with the cost of production (mastering) and printing of the CD and a little bit for paying the other musicians. We plan to be as environmentally friendly as we can with the printing. The cost of mastering a CD is usually around $100 per song, and we have 13 songs planned. Then there is printing, which can cost upwards of $1200. Paying other musicians will cost around $500. If we go above our goal, we could certainly use it to help with promotion (We'd love to hire a publicist, which could cost up to $2000 to really get the CD out there.) and artwork for the CD.
As a married couple, we are so lucky to get to make music together and to make wonderful friends and fans all over the country! We love writing songs to which other folks can relate. We always have people laughing at our shows, and are often surprised when folks come up and tell us we made them cry (in a good way!) We would appreciate any help in making this album a reality and look forward to seeing everyone we'll get to meet along the way!!
