About this project
A Delectable Idea
Dunky Cup is redefining the milk and cookie experience. Heavy-duty, yet sleek and comfortable to hold, the dunking cup was meticulously crafted for various-shaped cookies and milk. Inspired by the inventor's love for Oreo Cookies (TM), the three pockets also nestle a variety of morsels such as Milano's (TM), graham crackers, vanilla wafers, and even your own freshly baked cookies. At center stage, ice cold milk, tea, or coffee is stored and is where the dunking fun and mystique takes place. As an added bonus, Dunky Cup allows you to ditch the plate, elevating you to cookie dunking bliss with a simple, yet innovative approach to cookie dunking.
If you're an expert or inspiring dunker, then you know the importance of taking a few sips of milk between dunks. Who wants a dry mouth, right? With Dunky Cup, you can sip away without worrying about the cookies falling out! The pockets and spout are made so that round sandwich style cookies will stay in place. In fact, with cookies like Oreos (TM), you can drink all of the milk before even biting into a cookie! This even applies to short, rectangular cookies!
I've always had a sweet tooth and a passion for inventing. These attributes crossed paths one night as I was sitting on the couch with my milk and cookies. As I stared at the cookie crumbs on my plate and then over at the small pile of dishes from cookies past on the adjacent table, the idea to integrate plate and cup came to me. I tried not to get too excited because I assumed that something this simple probably had already been thought of. After hours of searching, a few other ideas that solved the cookie conundrum appeared, but I was unable to find any similar to Dunky Cup. From this point forward, I began my quest to solve this first world problem. With a background in design, I initially modeled the cup for 4 cookies, but later decided that 3 cookies fit much better and allowed for 8 ounces of milk in the center (it's also great portion control). The overall shape and feel of the cup evolved slightly over the course of its development as I created multiple 3D printed plastic and porcelain prototypes and got feedback from friends, industrial designers, and manufacturers.
More About the Cup's Design
Don't let the term "plastic" fool you. Dunky Cup is designed to go against the grain of your typical plastic cup. It's design is extremely heavy-duty and extra thick, giving it the appearance of white ceramic. This was a huge challenge for most manufacturers, whose expertise did not match the cup's demanding specifications and unconventional design. After scouring the earth for a suitable supplier and much R&D, these hurdles were overcome. The final result; a product of extreme precision and quality.

Enhanced Flavor | Science Explains
A study performed by British chef Heston Blumenthal explains why dunking a cookie (also known as a biscuit in the UK) enhances the flavor. Well-known in England, Blumenthal, is notorious for creating the unlikeliest of foods and scientifically creating culinary masterpieces. Seeking to explain England's passion for biscuits and tea, chef Blumenthal, in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, plugged into a device referred to as MS-Nose. Gently inserted into the nose, the super sniffer senses aromas produced when eating food with the skill of a bloodhound. The results: Dunking a cookie in tea (and I assume milk or coffee) creates huge spikes in the aromatic data when compared to sad, dry cookies. So what's going on? As the cookie crumbles, its surface area increases, meaning more stimuli for your taste buds and even more aromas. It's no wonder foodies of all ages enjoy this tradition.

Risks and challenges
Beside the long-term risk of your midsection becoming slightly cookie shaped, as with most innovative ideas, risks associated with manufacturing feasibility and delays are always possible. Fortunately, several versions of the Dunky Cup have successfully been prototyped. Additionally, we have worked very closely with the manufacturer who has performed their own feasibility studies and tests prior to the final production run. At this time, no manufacturing hiccups are expected. In the event of unforeseen setbacks, rest assured that we will do our absolute best to remedy the situation, immediately informing you of any design changes or delivery slips.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
