About

Marjorie Conrad's previous film:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Supporters,

We truly appreciate you checking out our Kickstarter.

After over 2 years of intense work and 18 months' worth of savings, we are ready to start shooting our feature film CHEMICAL CUT. During the next 30 days, we will be raising a total of $30,000 for our project's completion funds. Pledges will help cover production costs (equipment rental, production design, insurance).

As you probably know, we have to meet our ENTIRE goal, or no money and no rewards change hands! We want to avoid this scenario at all costs!

We know we are asking for A LOT of support, but our budget is modest and only covers the essentials. If we are able to exceed it, it'll be a dream come true! More money will allow us to make a better film and get you your rewards faster.

Like what you see? Back us today, and share this page with your friends and family!

Help us bring this untold story to life and receive one-of-a-kind perks in return. If there's a reward you really want that we haven't thought of, please email us at chemicalcutthefilm@gmail.com. We will get back to you asap!

We look forward to having you join us on this exciting journey.

Thank you,

The Team

What your money will fund:

  • Set Design (Art) - $5,500 (to make everything pretty)
  • Location Expenses - $5,200 (can't build a set, guess we need to find a location)
  • Cast Compensation - $4,500
  • Production Sound - $3,500 (let's not fix that in post)
  • Insurance - $3,000 (no one wants to pay for it, but everyone needs it)
  • Food for Crew - $3,000 (20 days, 12 cast & crew/day = you do the math!)
  • Wardrobe & Wigs - $2,500 (we never knew how expensive wigs were until now!)
  • Grip & Electric - $2,000 (insanely cheap, but lucky for us, our friends are hookin' us up!)
  • Gas Reimbursement - $800

Total - $30,000

Any additional funding we may receive will go to Kickstarter and Amazon fees, then: art, locations, camera gear, harddrives, makeup supplies, etc.

Notes:

You can pledge from anywhere.

Your money goes directly to the funding of this film.

Only you and the project creator will be able to see your pledge amount.

If you don't want the incentive, but just want to support, there is a button that you can select if you don’t want the reward.

Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.

About the film:

Change your clothes. Change your life.

20-something Irene is stuck selling retail when she’s suddenly given the chance to model. To take it, she must rise against her loved ones' disapproval. But fashion stardom does not turn out to be what she’s searching for.

Thematically, imagine a cross between Black Swan and Ghost World, with a hint of Woody Allen’s Zelig.

Visually, it aims for Frederick Wiseman's fly-on-the-wall aesthetic.

Comedienne Deven Green and performer Michael Lucid (creator of the 90s doc Dirty Girls, featured on Jezebel) are attached to the project.

Former America's Next Top Model contender Marjorie Conrad is the writer, director, and lead.

Bios:

MARJORIE CONRAD - Executive Producer / Writer / Director

Marjorie Conrad was thirteen when she made her first short, an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s story The Necklace, and won three VIC awards for Screenwriting, Best Production, and Best Performance.

At nineteen, Conrad became known as one of the contestants of the eleventh cycle of America's Next Top Model. She placed fourth out of thirty-three semifinalists, won two reward challenges, and received two first place call-outs for her photographs. Following her departure from the show, she signed with Look Model Agency.

Conrad graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Film Production. Her award-winning thesis film Limehouse closed the 51st SFSU Film Finals and garnered attention from the Sundance Institute.

Limehouse centers on a girl who briefly travels the streets of San Francisco at night, narrating her thoughts on the city. Aunt Charlie’s Lounge is her last stop, where legendary transsexual performer Vicki Marlane lip-syncs to Limehouse Blues.

BARRET HACIA - Producer

Barret Hacia's work has been distributed across North America and has premiered at numerous festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival and the San Francisco International Film Festival.

During his senior year at San Francisco State University, Hacia produced his first feature film, Falling Uphill. Hand-in-hand with the writer-director, Richard Bosner, Hacia developed the script, raised funds from untraditional sources, and received distribution from a boutique distributor after completing the festival circuit.

His dark comedy, Stepsister, developed with writer-director Joey Izzo, was accepted into the 2013 Cinéfondation, the Cannes Film Festival's showcase for new and emerging talent.

MICHAEL MAZZOLA - Associate Producer

As VP of ShearNerve Productions, Michael Mazzola participated in over a dozen feature films, including Michael Bergmann's Tied to a Chair and Wendy Shear's The Camera's Eye.

After completing his film studies at NYU, he returned to Los Angeles as VP of Marketing for Portfolio Art School, and later joined Producer & Management Entertainment Group as a Creative Executive. In 2013, Michael partnered with Pamela Hedley – former Senior VP of International Production for Zanuck/Brown Productions – to develop several feature film projects, including an original prequel to Jaws.

In addition to founding the First Annual Autism Awareness Film Festival, he sits on the Board of Directors for Grover Cleveland High School’s Media Academy and on The Executive Committee of the International Youth Media Summit.

MACKENZIE MATHIS - Cinematographer

Mackenzie Mathis received his BA and MFA in cinematography from San Francisco State University’s cinema program.

As a freelance filmmaker in the Bay Area, Mackenzie’s work encompasses many styles and formats - from narrative and documentary work, to music videos, to commercials and industrials for companies such as Google, Samsung, Ubisoft, Popular Mechanics Magazine, and more.

His artistic work has taken him around the world and has been awarded by numerous film festivals.  His current feature project, Ten Eleven O Two, is in the final stages of post-production and is scheduled to release in 2014.

See his reel here!

TREVOR BAILEY - Creative A.D.

Trevor Bailey has worked on a variety of productions, from narrative film, live TV, documentary, reality, and online content. His work ranges from zombie films to RuPaul’s Drag Race, and has worked on the production staff at World of Wonder Productions from 2008-2013.

Typically behind the scenes, his work is often technical & workflow based, from camera department, equipment coordination, and post-work flow. He has camera operated for many cable networks, including Logo, Bravo, TLC, E!, and more.

He holds a BFA in Film from Emerson College. While there, he happily executive produced the 24th Annual EVVY Awards & directed the 25th Annual EVVY Awards.

Risks and challenges

"Once the search is in progress, something will be found."
- An oblique strategy from Brian Eno / Peter Schmidt

Small budgets are limiting, but limits are crucial. To paint a room, you need walls.

We understand that filmmaking is problem-solving. No matter what challenges arise, be it scheduling conflicts with actors or trouble securing locations, this film will be completed and your rewards will be delivered.

Most importantly, we will not forget that you made it all possible. You rule!

Xoxo,

The Team
