First and foremost, we are gamers. With that said, we wanted to make games that we wanted to play. We also have friends and families that do not play games regularly, so we wanted to make games that are fun and easily accessible by non-gamers.
When we first started meeting on a regular basis and kicking around the idea of starting a publishing company, we never could have imagined that we would be ready to launch with not one but three games, and there is the rub. With three games good to go, and wanting to launch all at the same time, the cost of production became a little more than what we felt comfortable forking out. "One game, no sweat, three games, to the internets."
With the success of so many self-published and larger publishers coming from Kickstarter, as of late, we decided that it would be a great place to get some early buzz and get our names out there before our official product launch (Gen Con 2013).
Bringing Kickstarter into the mix excited us to the point that we revamped the art direction of one of our games to offer some really unique rewards for early contributors (more on that after the break).
"Why sooo much moneys?"
One word, manufacturing. Coming up with ideas for games is cheap, but unfortunately actually creating them is expensive. After getting quotes and talking to many people inside the industry, we have come up with an estimated cost of about $50,000 dollars to do a first run of all three games.
That is where your kickstarter dollars will be going. Items such as the website along with the cost associated the GenCon 2013 launch (and party) and our RPG Heterodox will be on us. Any money left once we produce all three games will be used to attend more conventions next year and create additional promo items for YOU, our backers. (A survey will be sent out at the end of the Kickstarter, to find out where you want to see us.)
And as always, if we don't hit our goal, we get no money, but have no fear we will still launch at GenCon 2013 it will just be with a very limited production run.
At the end of the Kickstarter we will be putting up a pre-order section on our site and continue working towards making great games.
The Games (That's what you are here for, right?)
Honestly who doesn't love a good zombie game?
Zombie Horde is the first game in our Horde series. The Horde system is a combination of tower defense, deck churning, pragmatic strategy and bluffing.
The object of the game is to be the person with the most points in Bystander in your hand when 12 hours have passed (in game, of course).
There are 4 base card types:
On every players turn you have the option to assist the defending player, play as the Horde or abstain from the round. This allows the game to be played as cutthroat or happy-shiny as you choose.
One thing that we wanted to do with the Horde system is to ensure that everyone gets to keep on playing until the game is done. So when you find yourself with no cards left in your hand and no items to defend yourself, what could possibly make more sense than becoming one with the Horde? Attacking your friends every move trying to break their will and have them join with you.
This game is designed to be played by two people, where players follow directions provided on the game board to capture the most amount space.
The design of the game is meant to give you that old-timey feel. From the scroll for a game mat to the packaging of the final product, Attrition is meant to feel like a game that has been played for 100's of years.
Divergence is a game that will never play the same way twice. Using 168 tiles up to 4 players randomly generate a maze and race to the center. Using blockers to swap tiles from their hand with those on the board, Divergence is a thoughtful combination of strategy and luck that is fun for the whole family.
The upcoming tabletop RPG from LM Studios. Not part of the Kickstarter, but mentioned in the rewards, so we wanted to give a little bit of detail.
Heterodox is an original RPG set in our primal-punk universe blending elements of dystopian future with spiritual magic and steampunk. With an all new system designed around the core principle of choice and consequence.
"Ok so what is with all this community section stuff you keep listing in the rewards?"
What we have planned for the site we think is pretty cool. We want to provide gamers the ability to plan events with other gamers and find out what events are going on around them. Along with a rich forums section, that will be open to all things gaming, we hope to provide a service for players to find gaming events, be it public sessions or ones listed on our site, near them.
We also would like to provide services for remote gaming if finding a group just isn't an option, either because of time constraints or a disability. Remote gaming is something that we feel is a natural progression to table-top gamers. With the technology being where it is, we feel that there is no reason why anyone who wants a game, regardless of time constrants or disability, shouldn't be able to find one.
And with all community pages the more people there are participating the better the page as a whole. So even if you decide not to be a backer, but the community section appeals to you please sign up for the newsletter by shooting a quick email to email@example.com and we will make sure to keep you up to date with all info around the community section.
