BODIES OF ART is a collection of works, using the human body as the canvas.
Created by 2 time World Champion bodypaint artist - Sofia Bue.
Written by Sofia Bue and Ben Egerton.
This unique publication explores the relationship between our mind and the physical world.
It celebrates life and shows the wonders of the human body.
It connects contemporary fine art practice with an ancient one, and it asks us to look at the familiar in a new way.
The artworks ask questions of the viewer: What is beauty? How do our bodies reflect our sense of emotional, mental or spiritual self?
BODIES OF ART is about capturing a particular thought or emotion, by showing how humans – at their most raw and most vulnerable – shape, and are shaped by, their environments.
BODIES OF ART is built around a collection of works, each telling their own story, combining a range of emotions.
Unlike traditional fine art, body art has undefined boundaries. A piece of paper has finite space. A painting is finished when the borders are reached. But body painting, using the human body – in all its custom-made beauty – has no limits;
The canvas is always changing as the body moves.
My name is Sofia. I'm a fine art artist who uses the human body as my canvas. With paint I create living pieces of art.
Though I'm a body artist, I prefer to call myself a visual storyteller - because every artwork tells a story and has so many layers, that it's easy to lose yourself in it.
I have been working on BODIES OF ART for the past 3 years, and I'm so excited to finally share this project with the world.
Through my job at Weta Workshop I have contributed to films such as The Hobbit, Chappie, Thunderbirds are GO, Power Rangers and most recently Ghost in the Shell.
In terms of both my work at Weta Workshop and my private work, I feel extremely privledged to be able to do something I love every day. When your passion becomes your job, you never really feel like you are working. It is a lifestyle more than anything else.
I hope that you will see my passion and dedication when you open BODIES OF ART. I hope you will relate to the artworks and their stories, and I hope that you will make them your own.
You can read more about me and my journey here.
These artworks aren’t limited to what’s painted on the bodies; what makes Bodies of Art different is the unique collaboration between photographers, stylists and models to produce each image.
I feel grateful to all the amazing people that have come together to make my vision a reality.
Collaborating with so many people - all experts in their field, has made this project much bigger than I could have ever imagined.
More than 40 people have come together in the making of this book.
We've chosen to self publish because we want to be in complete control of the final book, how it looks and how it's presented to the world. We need the quality of the book to reflect the quality of the artworks inside it.
Kickstarter allows us to reach out to fellow artists and art lovers, inviting them to join us on this journey.
All the creative content for the book has already been completed, and the funds from Kickstarter will cover the final stages of the layout process, as well as printing and shipping.
These mock up designs gives a sneak peek into the book, and an easy overview of available rewards. Please also check out the specifications at the bottom.
The Serious Collector includes a sculpture based on the image EQUILIBRIUM - which means a balance of opposing forces, and symbolised love and harmony.
The Serious Collector is extremely limited - only 25 copies available.
Each will be numbered and signed and they will be allocated in the same order as the pledges are received. For instance if you are backer number 7, you will receive copy number 7 out of 25.
What makes this reward extra special is that the sculpture will be created throughout the campaign and I will send you regular progress photos. Not only will you be supporting this creation - you will be a direct part of it.
The Weta Workshop Edition offers a unique opportunity to visit Weta Workshop and be taken on a guided experience by one of our spezialised tour guides. I will join your tour and you can ask myself and our tour guide all of your burning questions - Where did the name Weta come from? How many movies have we worked on? How do people get a job here?
Then sit back and watch as I re-create one of the characters from the book, while I talk about what it means to be an artist at Weta Workshop. This will be an interactive experience and you will even have the opportunity to pick up the brush for yourself if you like.

We are teaming up with several fulfilment center across the world, and we have set up a plan to ensure your reward will get to you in the best and fastest possible way.
All the content for ‘Bodies Of Art’ is already completed. When funded, all that remains is a final design pass, printing, shipping and distribution.

If there should be are any significant design changes or any unforeseen complications we will keep all backers informed via Kickstarter and through our social media network.
Our greatest challenge will be unforeseen issues, things beyond our direct control, for example a delay in shipping.

We will do what we can at our end to keep the shipping costs as low as possible for individual backers, but be aware that international orders may still be required to pay an import tax to your home country.
