The Galactic War Begins!

We’re so, so stoked to say this: today, we’re releasing the first iteration of Galactic War, Planetary Annihilation’s single-player experience. Available now as a free update, Galactic War tasks you with taking over a dynamic galaxy by scouring the stars for tech and special perks.

In Galactic War, you’ll be placed in control of a reawakened Commander with access to a limited tech tree. As you explore and battle across the galaxy’s procedurally generated systems, you’ll collect random technology and find perks that boost your manufacturing and fighting capabilities.

We designed Galactic War to be replayable, and for every playthrough to feel different. We also want you to decide the scale and intensity: each of Galactic War’s sizes change how many systems are in the galaxy and introduce different loadouts.

And the pressure’s on. Annihilation is final.

This is the start of Galactic War . Much like with the game as a whole, you can expect updates that will add new features, mechanics, and more. Get out there, already — and experience Galactic War over and over and over again.

I am _really_ uncomfortable about that phrase you've used twice now - "free update". I backed this project for the finished product; not for "free updates" to an unfinished product. It is not so much that I am concerned about later non-"free updates"; many excellent games have expansions written for them, including Total Annihilation. My concern is that you are emphasizing that these updates are "free", to set up a contrast with later not free updates, which you might end up asking me to purchase in order to receive the completed project which I initially backed.

I am okay with "when it's done" as a release schedule - as long as it is a completed game _before_ you ask me to pay to play non-"free update"s.

      @Nathan Friedly-

Final Version is intended to be completely hostable by non Uber Servers (you can host your own server, then play on it)- so yes- it will be playable offline. (Update 1 link below answers a few of those questions)

Will this be playable offline (or at least without a constant, fast connection)? I haven't tried it in a few months, but I was majorly bummed that I couldn't really play the beta because my internet connection couldn't keep up with any decent sized battle.

For Drakrochma and Morten Anderson- Here is the original Post for the Galactic War stretch goal-

Unless something has majorly changed, as this feature get fleshed out, Coop will be in it.

    5. Creator Morten Nielsen on May 23, 2014

This is what I've been waiting for, thank you so much! I noticed drakrochma comment about COOP. If moneys an issue, I'd love to pay for such an extension.

I'm getting "Failed to start game" on every other battle. Restarting the game fixes it, but it's kind of problematic nonetheless.

    7. Creator drakrochma on May 23, 2014

      PLEASE,
      give us this in Co-OP.

Can´t imagine anything cooler than playing this in co-op with some friends and a lot of cold beer.

      PLEASE :)

Gah. Damn you Uber. My friends cracked and bought the 30 Dollar pact But I have to wait till release for my copy when it's finished... You evil taunting bastards. (I love you keep making this game... )

      Woohoo! Goodbye, productivity!

This is...not a single player that teaches you how to play. The AI is still impenetrably smarter than I care for as a beginning player and I honestly don't have the time to learn the game by bashing my head against it. Please include some kind of actual tutorial campaign in the finished product. I didn't have to learn Starcraft from scratch, and that was last century. The game looks great, and I'm excited about it, I just would like it to be accessible.

    11. Creator Brian Yoshimura on May 22, 2014

So cool!!! The single player experience was soo great in SupCom, this is a nice surprise! Thanks for the hard work guys.

    12. Creator Timothy Roller on May 22, 2014

Great, this is what I've been waiting on to start playing!

    13. Creator Jarrah on May 22, 2014

Great, I was only interested in the single player, so good to see it started

    14. Creator Alex Ting on May 22, 2014

      WOOHOO :D

    15. Creator Michael Caldwell on May 22, 2014

Nevermind!!! Figured it out lol. For those of us that keep wondering, just go to download the launcher on the Uber site, and there is a little button that says "Convert to Steam".

    16. Creator Michael Caldwell on May 22, 2014

How do I activate it on Steam? Or are we only able to access this version in Beta?

    17. Creator Marcelloz on May 22, 2014

      Finally the single player stuff!

    18. Creator harborpirate on May 22, 2014

Yessss! Super excited to check this out.

    19. Creator Chris Hale on May 22, 2014

I'd love to jump in but I still haven't received an email for the Beta / Early Access.

    20. Creator J.R. Raith on May 22, 2014
