About

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1AHY2z0NB0

I am Jermaine Simpkins, professional boxing trainer.  I am an ex amature standout; never got a chance to turn pro and reach my goal of becoming a champion due to medical conditions that rendered me unable to pass medical clearance.  Luckily, the passion still runs deep inside and I am able to stay around the sport and train young men and women, giving them the opportunity to achieve what I could not.  I daydream of how to make fighters better; after 20 years around the sport, this is the product of my dream.  I have brought it to life after 6 years.  I know in my heart that this is the future of combat sport training.

This project all started with years of observing trainers and how they use training mitts to train their fighters.  The problem that I found was that fighters were becoming programmed to vocal orders and less to the randomness that truly takes place in a fight.  The thing that was missing from traditional training mitts was sponanuity without warning so that a fighter would always remain in a position to strike.  Incorporating trainer triggered lights on mitts were the missing link.  At the speed of light, fighters must make real time decisions based on the creativity of the trainer thus they never know when the light will flash.  With the adjustable light timing, built-in reflex stopwatch, punch counter and sucessfull strike beep for strikes that hit the light on time, trainers get real time assessments of changes that can be fixed to the nearest one-hundreths of a second.  What I was left with was the idea of creating the most technologically advanced training mitts on the planet.

With this patent, I plan on isolating the market.  Since I am the only one who can sell training mitts with lights in them, I have been marketing this as the future of combat sports training equipment that is only available from RST.  Everything in sports has evolved, especially training techniques.  Using traditional training equipment, such as training mitts, this product allows for trainers to use their normal routine; this only adds to what is already being used and can still be used without activating the technology within.  In a sense, this product is masked under already accepted equipment and thus, they will be able to infiltrate the gym without alienating you "classic" trainer.  As stated before, you can still use them as normal mitts and you can train reflexes, power, monitor endurance.

The resources that I recieve from Kickstarter will go towards buying a 3d printer to make the small plastic pieces so that I can ensure my customers quality.  During these early stages of developement, I need to be able to promote the product by paying for advertising videos on youtube, facebook.  I am also in an agreement with a manufacturer from Pakistan which makes the mitt that the technology is installed in.  So far, I bought 50 pairs for 1000 dollars and with the increasing popularity of the product, I am running out of mitts.  I have a small work crew that consist of friends and they seem to like getting paid after everyday, which I have no problem with; I just need money to pay them in advanced to fill up backed orders.  I feel that I can meet the demand for the increasing popularity of the product with around 12k and bring technology and combat sports training to the forefront.

In addition to trying to fulfill orders, I am afraid that I will not be able to satisfy the increasing market as a journalist from fightnews.com stumbled across me training with the mitts at an event we held for Mike Tyson at the Richard Steele boxing club.  She wants to write a story on the new technology.  The frightens me because the site gets about a million viewers per day who are tremendous fight fans of both mma and boxing. I did not ask her to do an article on the mitts but I cannot pass up the opportunity for this great exposure.

the assembly for the project is as follows:

1.The mitts are made in Pakistan and shipped to me with the logo on them.

2.  The microchip and circuit boards are assembled and programmed with my engineer.

3.  After I recieve the circuit board, I inser them into the mitt along with the light.  This is done in my garage with a couple friends.

4. The mitts are then inspected and shipped out.

Risks and challenges

With combat sports being woven into traditional training practices, I must overcome the fear trainers have of change. Think about it, we are talking about a something that looks like it is from a Tron movie; that alone can scare off the average "Mickey" from the Rocky Balboa series.

In addition to it being accepted, I understand that durability will need honing. Surprisingly, the durability is not in regards to the light but with the trainers thumb trigger. I have yet to fund the thumb trigger design as I have exasporated my resources to do so. I will tackle this by getting plastic encapsulated buttons which provide as much durability.

Market price may deter many from being able to own this product. I am assuming that it is fair to price this product slightly above the most expensive pair of training mitts since it does slightly more. If I meet my quota, I can sell them for less as I would be able to order more. The larger the quantity, the lower I can sell them. I will also use pro boxers like champion Tim Bradley who I am associated with, to make viral youtube videos of the product in use. Sometimes its not what the product is, but its who uses it. I have made arraingments with Roger Mayweather, trainer of Floyd Mayweather jr, to give him free pair. I will go viral with videos of usage by Roger inside the Mayweather gym. Suddenly, it would seem as though you would then pay the cost to be the boss; train like the Mayweathers.
