I'm super excited! I wrote True Crimes from Rhymes Square years ago but never found someone to bring it to life until I met artist Eric Hamilton. Now, with your support, we can make it a reality.
The story follows detective Friday’s Child and partner September (the horse) as they attempt to crack the case of who pushed Humpty Dumpty. During their investigation they question the denizens of The Big Nursery, all recognizable characters from Mother Goose Tales. Kids will have fun following the procedural investigation (gathering clues, weighing evidence, asking questions of familiar characters) while adults will enjoy reading it for its 1940’s/1950’s noir, steampunk style. This is truly an out-of-the ordinary-picture book that brings together many concepts including a reimagining of the diversity of these classic characters and that perseverance and hard work will ultimately pay off despite setbacks and red herrings.
Funds from this Kickstarter will be used to produce and deliver a beautiful, 8” x 10” 40-page hardbound book, printed on high quality paper, equal to the quality of children’s book sold in bookstores— in a one-time only limited, signed and numbered, collector’s edition! You get to see a book in progress and have the chance to support us. This collector’s edition, along with your support and feedback, will help us show proof of concept when we approach publishers.
Kickstarter funds will also be used to pay Eric to produce the visuals for the collector’s editions and for the publishers to see the potential of a fully realized book we would like to ultimately bring to a larger, nationally distributed edition. The works in this collector’s edition include some completely finished paintings, final sketches and rough concept drawings to bring the story to life. Other funds go to the production team that organized and designed the layout of the truly special edition of True Crimes from Rhymes Square.
We would ideally like to raise $12,000, but as Kickstarter is all or nothing, we are going with half our goal of $6,000. If we raised $12,000, it would mean that every artist, producer, writer and staff member working on this, including the production of the books themselves, would be supported by you!
By contributing today, you are sharing the passion of myself, the artists and the production team that have already given so much time, love and creativity to this project. You are bringing a work of beauty to life. And helping to solve the mystery of who pushed Humpty Dumpty. Thank you for your support.
Risks and challenges
I have ten years publishing experience, published 2 books and sold one film. I understand the industry and that a unique project like this needs a unique approach. Since I can't afford to pay my team who are hard at work producing this book, I need your assistance to fully realize True Crimes from Rhymes Square. By contributing now, you have the opportunity to create something special, and receive a collector’s edition of what is sure to be the next big thing in children's publishing. The challenge now is raising the money. Be part of the team and help crack this case wide open.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
