About

What exactly is Horse fighting ?

Horse fighting is illegal in most countries around the world. However it is still practiced in some parts of Asia such as China, Indonesia , Korea and the Philippines, where the authorities turn a blind eye in the name of culture and tradition.

In their normal environment horses fight for leadership of their group and over mares. However In horse fighting this behavior is simulated  in a controlled environment.

Mares are brought into an arena and paraded before two males. One male is allowed to mate with the female for a short period while the other male looks on. The first male is then pulled away from the mare and the other male is allowed to mate. Both males are then lead away and the mare is led around the arena at speed. The Males are then brought together to fight for the ability to mate with the mare. Horses bite ,kick and strike each other until one horse backs away twice or is too injured to continue. The winner is then allowed to mate with the mare while the weaker horse is led away.

Our Documentary

From the very start we set out to document horse fighting in a non biased, impartial way by interviewing both sides of the story.

Over the course of  2 months we filmed a horse owner in the build up to the horse fighting festival and gained access to the event itself held in a very remote province in the Philippines. This was  the first time that a camera crew has been able to fully document an illegal Horse fighting event and conduct in depth interviews with the major participants.

We interviewed the event organizers, vets ,the horse owners and the spectators in order to document the cultural and traditional reasons why horse fighting still exists. We then traveled to the other end of the country and interviewed Animal Rights representatives who were well versed in  Horse fighting and asked  for their perspective.

We are soon to wrap up shooting of the project and would like your help and support in finishing our documentary so that we can give this topic the exposure it warrants. It would be a kick-start if you can share this with your friends on social media platforms like twitter , Facebook and blogs, but better still if you can take the time to sign up to Kickstarter and pledge.

With your valuable contributions we can complete the shooting and then begin the labor intensive and time consuming post production work. In terms of production we still need to complete a few days shooting in a very remote province in South East Asia. Plus finish up some interviews with people on both sides of the debate.Post production could take around a month as there are a number of individuals needed to complete the project. These include a video editor, post production sound engineer , colorist, graphic and titles artist and translator to help with subtitles.

We are only looking for a relatively small amount to complete this project. Its barely enough to cover our most basic costs at this point. However If we receive more than the required amount we can substantially up the level of post production and use experienced professionals from the States rather than those sourced locally.

Any questions please make a comment on our Kickstarter campaign or send us an email and we will get back to you.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our campaign and any support you can offer.

Risks and challenges

Once we raise the funds, our only challenge is to determine the best possible editor that we can to show this project in all its glory. Because we don't know exactly how much we will raise, the first stage would be reviewing reels and critiquing previous work to determine whether the applicants can deliver the level of quality that the project deserves. After the candidates have been chosen we would be very hands on throughout the many different stages of post production until the project is completed. This would involve a great deal of man management and logistics due to the numbers of people involved.

Because we're currently overseas working overtime to complete this project, our only minor concern is fulfilling the rewards due to shipping issues. But we promise to all our faithful donators they will receive their rewards and be wow'ed by the enormity of this production they helped to make!
