Help our Cuckoo Young [Song] Writers in Sunderland make beautiful music by giving us a couple of quid toward some musical instruments!
Cuckoo Young [Song] Writers was established in January 2016. It's a free weekly group for young songwriters age 12-19, led by professional musicians Martin Longstaff (aka The Lake Poets) and Natasha Haws. It's for budding songwriters of all abilities, from musicians who want to find out more about writing lyrics to writers who want to set their words to music. As well as providing the space, time and professional help to develop songs and music, the group gives young songwriters the chance to perform at Cuckoo Young [Song] Writers gigs and get into the studio to record their work.
Since beginning, the group has grown steadily and has now reached the stage that it needs some instruments. At the moment the group relies on the few group members who have their own equipment: we'd like to be able to provide some basic instruments, so that not having/ being able to afford instruments is not a barrier to getting involved.
Our target is modest and we'll be scouring ebay to make any money donated go as far as possible!
Risks and challenges
Cuckoo Young [Song] Writers is part of Cuckoo Young Writers, which is New Writing North's young people's programme. We rely on funding and donations to keep all of our programme free and accessible to all.
We currently receive funding from PRS Foundation to run the weekly groups but this doesn't provide any "extra" for equipment and materials.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
