THE LAST FRANKENSTEIN is a modern day spin-off of Mary Shelley's classic horror story. It centers on Jason Frankenstein, the last of his line. Buried in a dormant life and a dead end relationship, Jason finds himself frustratingly approaching his mid years with little progress to show towards carrying forward his family's experiment. But when a creature from his past brutally reappears, he is catalyzed to finally complete his work. With the help of a pair of drug dealing paramedics and a nurse with a shady past, he sets down the blood-soaked path to create a living being from the bodies of the dead.
With THE LAST FRANKENSTEIN, I am using the Frankenstein story as the foundation upon which to create an "existential slasher"...a horror movie that tells a character-driven story of a man attempting to fulfill the meaning of his life yet never for a moment shies away from the blood, gore, and unforgettable kill scenes that made the slasher genre legendary.
Key to the identity of the film is its aesthetic. I have been immeasurably influenced as a filmmaker by the art, design, and cinema of the late 1950s through the 1980s, and this film will reflect that in several ways:
(1) SPECIAL EFFECTS - All our special effects will be done in camera, without computer-generated assistance. That's right! This is a 100% practical effects-based horror film, in the tradition of such classics as DAWN OF THE DEAD, THE THING, and MANIAC.
(2) ART DIRECTION - Though a contemporary tale, our art department is working hard to create a vintage look for our film. We are locking down locations and gathering props that will allow our characters to live in a modern day world that still channels the sensibilities of forty years ago.
(3) CASTING - It was extremely important to me that THE LAST FRANKENSTEIN cast include veterans of the horror genre, performers whose presence would carry with it the history and weight of the movies that made such an impression on me. To this end, we have been fortunate to attach both Jim Boelsen and Roger Perry to our project! Jim made his movie debut as the definitive frat goon in 1978's THE HAZING and met a horrific end in 1981's STRANGE BEHAVIOR, and he will be making a nod to his first film by playing a college president in our picture. Roger is well known by genre fans for his vampire-hunting roles in COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE and its sequel, THE RETURN OF COUNT YORGA. He is also beloved by science fiction fans for his guest star role on the original STAR TREK episode "Tomorrow Is Yesterday'. Roger will be playing Jason's grandfather in THE LAST FRANKENSTEIN.
We are launching this Kickstarter campaign to raise the remaining balance of our production budget. Your contributions will cover such things as the the many gore effects in the film, accommodations for non-local cast and crew, and equipment rental fees. By making a donation, you will ensure that THE LAST FRANKENSTEIN becomes the film we envisioned. We promise you that every dollar raised will be well spent, and we have assembled an incredibly talented crew to bring this film to life.

Risks and challenges
Even the biggest-budgeted film shoots can go awry, and our movie will be made on a tight budget and schedule. But THE LAST FRANKENSTEIN production team is more than up to the task, pooling together years of experience in the film industry and educational establishment. By the time cameras roll this July, we will have invested a solid year of pre-production, giving ourselves ample amount of time to ensure this film will be completed with its intended vision intact.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
