Icarus the Flying Pig is the story of a pig who has a dream. His dream is to fly. His family and most of those he meets along the way tell him that it's impossible for pigs to fly, but Icarus is determined!
I've written a few books and have been published before. This is my first children's book, and I am super excited about it! I had this idea some years back and looked for an illustrator to work with. Unfortunately I could not find an illustrator to work with me. I was convinced by my fans to try my hand at doing the illustrations myself, taking my love of art as a hobby and turning it towards a more career focused endeavor. The results were better than I had expected.
At this moment, the illustrations are nearly complete! The manuscript has been ready for months. I really want to see this book available by the Holiday Season, and it looks like it will be ready well before then.
The Goal for this campaign is to make the book available not just as a "print on demand" book, but to actually get a full run of books printed so that those who want it can get it on the first run. I'm also hopeful that there will be some extra copies to donate to some local daycares, public libraries and elementary schools.
The book will be paperback, 8.5"x8.5", full color laminate glossy cover with full color pages on 60# white paper.
If this project is funded, I will be a busy man! But I do have a plan!
About a week after the project has ended the hope is that all will be well and the funds will be transferred to me. Once that is done, the order to the printer will be made. The company I will use for the paperback printing is usually really quick on the turn around and should have the books to me in less than two weeks. During this time, I will work on making the bookmarks and certificates and other items for rewards. By the first week of November, so long as everything goes well, I will be sending out the books and rewards!
$600 Stretch Goal!
If we can manage to make it to the next mark, I will add to every reward a hand painted 5x7 (ish) painting of Icarus from the end pages of the book. Each one will be original and ready for framing!
There is a stretch goal in mind: If I can get $5000 in funding, the book will be hardbound! This would be great, and it may add a little time to the printing, but it would be worth it.
Risks and challenges
The companies I am looking at for printing have solid reputations for getting the work done in a timely manner and with top notch quality. Hopefully they will continue this trend as I get involved with printing the book, but there is always the rare chance that there could be a delay.
Once the books are printed and delivered to me, the next step is getting the work to you, the supporter! I've done mail order fulfillment many times before, so the process is not new to me. Hopefully the volume will be a challenge, but it is one I look forward to. I will endeavor to get these books and all the rewards out and delivered before the end of November. I would love to actually get so much support that I need the first week in December to get everything out! This project will be top priority on my list, so barring any unforeseen disasters, there should be little risk and hopefully a worthwhile challenge!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
