About this project
So after years of searching and waiting, I finally connected with the perfect pottery house to create our Alpha Series when I was in Taiwan last spring. They have over 40 years of curating clays in Taiwan and we've worked together over the past 11 months to get to this point.
I've walked through a ton of offices during my 10 years in NYC. It's not uncommon these days to see people at their desk drinking tea, but it is rare to find them drinking loose leaf tea. Usually, they resort to a tea bag so they don't have to go through some complicated process with all sorts of steeping contraptions that create a mess. There’s a need for functional loose leaf teaware that actually looks good, can find a home on the workdesk, and be used for daily steeping.
So we did it: created a tea pot that ACTUALLY LOOKS GOOD, and is functional for work or home. Then, we made sure it was fit for the solo experience, yet adaptable for a shared experience. Finally, we wanted it to feel authentic, like a new beginning—so the name ALPHA was born.
KEEP IT LOOSE LEAFWhy settle for tea bags? (which are usually the dust that falls from the actual leaves being sifted) We drink loose leaf to get the full experience of what it means to drink tea. Tea farmers put countless hours and dedication into crafting a specific type of tea. To appreciate their labors, you gotta drink loose leaf. Experience the full aromas by letting the tea expand in your pot. Experience the strength of the leaves by steeping over and over again. Experience the beauty of watching the leaves unfurl. We believe that our Alpha Series is the perfect set for brewing loose leaf, and can be used by beginners and connoisseurs alike.
1. It prevents the pour from traveling close to the rim and thus keeps the heat lower than your hand.
2. It allows you to know how much water to pour into the pot. Once you see water start to fill the spout, that is when you stop pouring.
The Alpha design is also suitable for those who do not want to lose any heat during the infusion. We didn't want the hassle of a lid, especially in the workplace, so this is our version of a functional way to have a lid without a lid! It works with both the Alpha Mug and the Alpha Pitcher.
Western culture likes mugs, but to be honest, I don't like most mugs very much. So if I was going to create a mug, it had to be one that I actually liked. So I came up with some ideas and ran them by my friends. These were our conclusions: medium size, just enough to hold a brew of tea, but small enough that I could actually steep another brew or two before ending my tea session.
Why The Pitcher? When brewing tea in Taiwan, pitchers are always used when sharing tea. After the tea has been infused, since you will be using small share cups, you first need to decant the tea from the pot into the pitcher. Then with the pitcher, you will pour the necessary amount into the cups you are using to share.
After designing the pot, it was easy to design the pitcher because we wanted them to be similar in look and size. The flare and the main body would look the same, so we just needed to design how it poured. We decided on just a slightly shallower indent in the clay for the pour than what you would normally see. We like this because it reminds us of water flowing from a waterfall.
The Alpha Share cups keep the same body shape as the rest of the series and although they are simple, they are well-balanced and great to hold.
The Alpha Legend pot was made with the serious connoisseur and pot collector in mind. We wanted to create a high-end pot that still kept the features of our Alpha Series (spout shape from the Alpha pot and handle style from the Alpha mug. Because it's made for the collector, we wanted to do only a limited run of 100 of these. ONLY 100 WILL BE MADE EVER!

I'm blessed to have a community of talented friends that have helped me immensely on this project. Take a few minutes and check out their work.
You should expect to receive your Alpha Set in September. (Perfect time for drinking tea in the fall....for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere.) The pottery house in Taiwan is awaiting our GO for production!
Our Kickstarter Campaign ends April 15
Production will begin May 1st
SUPER EARLY BIRDS will ship by June 30th
Full production will end July 30th
EARLY BIRDS will arrive by freight in New York on August 30
EARLY BIRDS out for delivery in September
It is possible that they EARLY BIRDS could ship out earlier than September but that depends on how many sets have to be crafted. We will update everyone accordingly.
FREE SHIPPING IN THE UNITED STATES
We are pleased to offer free shipping here in the United States
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPINGWe can ship our Alpha Series anywhere in the world, but please note that because our sets are made of clay, they need to be packed well, and are not cheap to ship. But remember, you are getting a unique piece of teaware that should last you a lifetime if taken care of properly, so shipping costs are slim when looked at from that angle.
Risks and challenges
I've been traveling, sourcing, and importing tea from Taiwan since 2011 so I've had my fair share of experience with complicated logistics. Not only have I visited the workshop in Taiwan where Alpha will be crafted, but I've been in frequent contact with the workshop for the past year preparing for this campaign. Upon completion of the campaign, I will be flying out to Taiwan, overseeing the initial production process, and updating all backers during those travels. We have a solid plan to deliver the teaware on time. That being said, every project is unique, especially when dealing with teaware that isn't widely mass produced, so if any delays occur, we will be completely transparent and update timelines accordinglyLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
