THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE <3S US:
On Friday, 5/16 The Austin Chronicle featured us in their Kickstart Your Weekend segment!
Check it out!
How much time did you spend last week trying to decipher the “hey ;)” sent by some rando you met at 2am on Sixth Street? How long did you spend debating whether “hey” or “heyy” is a more appropriately casual reply?
What if the stakes had been higher? What if he wasn’t a rando, but a dreamy movie star who spouts sensitive memes and routinely saves women from hit-and-run accidents?
What if he was RYAN GOSLING?
You’d need help from trusted friends. You’d need to confer. And when you strategized, you’d need to bring your A-game.
TEXTING WITH GOSLING is a ten-episode webseries created by four women in UT Austin’s graduate screenwriting program, set and shot in Austin, TX.
Each episode follows Felix as she and her housemates craft a careful response to Gosling’s texts by exploring all the various strategies and phenomena of texting—from winkys to double texts to the ever-cringeworthy drunk text.
The strength of this series comes from the amazing women who created it. We boast an all-female writing staff, all-female directors, an all-female cast, and a predominately female crew of smart, talented, and incredibly funny women who seek to tell film stories for and about women.
Jessica Chou is a 26 year old who, after graduating with an MFA in Creative Writing at UMSL, realized that screenwriting was the better fit. Now she’s happily installed in UT’s MFA Screenwriting Program where she nerds out about aliens, zombies, and superheroes all day.
Donna Hull, a proud Texan, graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA from the School of Cinematic Arts in Film and Television Production. After graduation she worked two years as associate producer for the LA Femme Film Festival, an assistant at the Oprah Winfrey Network during it’s historic launch, and as Unit Production Manager for the webseries MILK + HONEY executive produced by Idris Elba.

You can help us make our goal of $4,000, which will be used for:
- Food (Craft, Lunch, Dinner)
- Production Design
- Sound Design
With your donations, we can make this project a reality.
Our stretch goal of $6000 can help us get our work into festivals and allow us to pay our hardworking crewmembers.
PS: Unfortunately, Ryan Gosling is not affiliated in any way with this project (if he was, we’d cease to be rational, coherent human beings).
Risks and challenges
We might face scheduling issues, due to the fact that we are all MFA students with individual responsibilities and projects. We will handle this by sacrificing personal time and moving around our schedules as best as we can to pursue this project.
Ever heard of the phrase "too many cooks in the kitchen" ? In group projects like this, it is often a challenge. We will make sure to keep our priorities straight, make compromises and keep our end goal in mind.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
