In 2017, I was at a crossroads with my art career and asked a friend to do a tarot reading for me - I was already getting nowhere with journaling and Pros vs Cons lists, so any additional guidance from the universe was appreciated. I was stunned at the cards' power to help me look inwardly and sort through my fears and anxieties.
Months later, I turned back to tarot, this time painting the cards that brought sense whenever it felt like my world was out of sorts. Especially in times like these, the project became a way for me to unplug from the newsfeed, find healing, and send that healing back out.
I hope that my rendition of the Major Arcana Tarot cards can bring to others the same introspection and self-understanding that painting them did for me. Thank you for your support!
The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards - this deck will include all 22, as well as a list of the cards and their possible meanings in simple terms (more in-depth interpretations can be found online - there are many, so find one that speaks to your heart!). The cards are printed in America on 2.75"x4.75” 350gsm Premium linen finish paper, and full decks will be cellophane-wrapped for protection (unlocked tiers will include wrapping cloths or bags to hold the deck). Each image was originally hand-drawn and painted by myself, using watercolor paints and colored pencils.
- LOCKED Stretch Goal 500 Decks - Gold trim added to edges of cards
- UNLOCKED! Stretch Goal $2000 - Option of wrapping cloth or velvet bag (full decks only)
Costs and Timeline
The funding goal is set to be entirely put towards the production and delivery of the cards. It accounts for the printing of the cards, Kickstarter fees, packaging of the cards and decks themselves and of parcels, as well as a small buffer for unforeseen shipping costs.
- December - January: Kickstarter campaign is live!
- February: Collection of surveys and ordering of cards/stretch goal accessories
- March: Production and packing time!
- April-June: Shipping to backers (original sketch and watercolor rewards take time, so these will ship in June).

If you would like more than what's offered in the reward tiers, please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org - I'll see if I can accommodate!
About the Artist
Art has been my creative outlet for as long as I could hold a crayon. I've always drawn inspiration from nature, the power of the feminine, Art Nouveau, and my Japanese heritage. After graduating in 2010, I had a 5-year art drought; life got in the way as I went straight to working full-time, which left me no time, energy, or spirit to keep creating. At the start of 2015, I made it my goal to draw something every day for the year - I never dreamed that such a small daily goal would lead to art shows, craft fairs, and making so many global connections with other creatives!
While I never took formal classes for watercolor, it quickly became my go-to medium when art was just a weekend-hobby, as it dries quickly and I could complete small postcard sized pieces in a single day. In some ways, it's an unforgiving medium, but it forces the artist to go with the flow and let the pigment be where it wants to be.
Risks and challenges
The main risks I could run into with this project are potential delays or errors in printing, and packing/shipping the rewards out to backers, as I still have a job on top of being an artist. I've budgeted extra time to accommodate this. In any case, I plan to keep backers updated at least once a week.
There is a chance that original art rewards may take longer, depending on my 2018 event schedule and life circumstances. However, I will not take on any additional commissions or projects until those rewards are completed and shipped.
All of the artwork is completed, scanned, and ready to be printed, and a draft deck has been printed to check for consistency, so flaws or imperfections from the printer should be minimal.
As soon as the campaign closes and payments are processed, I'll send the order to the printer and start prepping the other rewards. Lead time from the printer is generally two weeks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
