The Tethermen & The Neolithics is a unique comic that starts at a normal comic size, but opens to reveal a large poster-sized comic.
Welcome to The Tethermen & The Neolithics Kickstarter campaign...
THE FORMAT: When creating this comic, one of the first things we looked at was the format of the book. Both of us work in advertising & design, so the size & shape of the book was just as important as the stories themselves.
With that, we looked at how we could change the way you read the book, without changing the way it fits on store shelves, in your bags & backers and in comic long boxes.
Our solution was to create a poster-sized comic that folded down to a normal sized book, very similar to a map that fits in your glovebox. The full size of the sheet will be approximately 26 x 20-inches, and when folded down will be 6.5 x 10-inches, right at a standard comic book size.
The book will be in full color and printed on a high-quality paper stock.
THE STORIES: SIDE ONE: First up is a comic called "The Neolithics", written and drawn by Chris Garrity. As mentioned in the video above, this comic is about a misfit team of superheroes that operate around 10,000 B.C. The story involves time travel, mutant gorillas, and even a stampede of wild elephants. The inspiration for this story comes from old Saturday morning cartoons like the Herculoids and Thundar the Barbarian.
SIDE TWO: On the flip side of the poster is a story called "The Tethermen" and is created by Matt Bellisle. This is a darker story about a group of unique individuals called Tethers, who can jump into the dreams of others, control the outcomes and influence what those people do once they wake up. Some do this for good, others for their own means... But something dark is creeping in the dreamscape, and the Tethers are being hunted down by an unknown force lurking in the shadows. All their hopes lie in the hands of a young boy and his destiny to bring an end to this dream war and solve their greatest mystery.
THE CREATORS: This book is a collaboration between Matt Bellisle and Chris Garrity, who have been reading and creating their own indy comics for decades. Having met in college while studying art, we have continued to push one another to create comics and test the boundaries of the medium.
Both of us have been working in the advertising & graphic design field for over 15 years, but have always made time to work on small self published comics or the occasional work-for-hire piece.
Many of Matt's comic pieces and illustrations can be found at his website: www.gravitydsn.com
This book is the first time we have worked together on a project and can't wait to show all of you what we've come up with.
THE GOAL: Our goal for this project is to raise enough funds to have the book printed and distributed to as many people as we can. We're very excited about the stories we've created and hope that this Kickstarter campaign can help us share it with the world. If we exceed our goal, then the plan is to use the additional funds to create more of The Tethermen & The Neolithic stories down the road, and also attend various comic shows to further promote the book.
THE PLEDGES: To help us reach our goals, we've set up a number of incentives / pledges (to the right) that you can contribute to...
Here are details on some of those items:
Digital Package: All pledges of $5 or more will receive this digital package that will include a link to a high-resolution PDF file of the comic book, as well as links to digital wallpapers for your computer screen backgrounds.
The Book: A printed copy of The Tethermen & The Neolithics comic book. The books will also be signed by both creators.
T-Shirts: The Tethermen t-shirts are printed in one-color on the front, and feature the cover illustration from the book.
Marker Sketches: These are original hand-drawn marker sketches of a head-shot of a character from the Neolithics. These are drawn by Chris Garrity and measure approximately 7x10-inches
Watercolored Prints: These are both prints and one of a kind pieces of art all in one. They start as black & white prints of characters from the Tethermen, but are then individually hand-painted by Matt Bellisle. These are done on 8x10-inch sheets of watercolor paper.
Original Paintings on Hardboard: These are original Tethermen illustrations/paintings done on hardboard by Matt Bellisle. These start as pen & ink sketches on the 8x10-inch boards and then get painted with washes of color over the top.
Detailed Pencil Sketches: These are fully rendered character sketches of the characters from the Neolithics. These are drawn by Chris Garrity and are approximately 8x10-inches on thick paper.
With all that, we'd like to say THANK YOU for checking out our Kickstarter campaign, and hope that we can make this project a reality...
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As with any project, there are possibilities for hiccups along the way. Printing is our main hurdle and our number one reason for asking for your help. Printing the comic at this large of a size requires us to use specialized printers with the capabilities to print at this scale and to handle the multiple folding. We've already found a great printer, locally here in Green Bay, WI, and are confident it will come off smoothly.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
