What is a SIZZLE?!
A 3-5 minute demo-video promoting a show for non-fiction and reality TV networks.
What do we want to promote with this sizzle?
... The first ever WISDOM COUNCIL LIVE TV series!
We are inspired by the impact that Wisdom Councils have had in Austria, where bringing regular people together for creative conversations on challenging public issues has become their “new normal”. Now for the first time ever, we are adapting this proven public participation process for television. We know that TV shows influence public awareness – and have the power to positively impact the big challenges we are facing in society today. We want to invite audiences into the exciting experience of creatively exploring diverse perspectives -- engaging minds and hearts in a living process of consciously shaping our collective future!
With this sizzle introducing THE WISDOM COUNCIL LIVE TV SERIES we aim to spark a TV show that reawakens our collective sense of We the People. We want to showcase the real possibility of finding common ground. We want audiences to witness AND participate in this real-life drama, where people of diverse perspectives engage with one another creatively and address challenging social issues.
Many of you feel like Carol Frenier who says: "It's painful to see, how hard it is for people to listen to one another. There is such a tendency to make every person who holds the opposite point of view, wrong. What can we do, so that we can begin to become more human to one another? What would it mean to be able to 'witness' each other's perspectives in much greater depth?" (Quote from "Deepening Democracy: Awakening the Spirit of our Shared Life Together" on the Collective Wisdom Initiative website.)
The Show demonstrates
how the big issues of our society can be creatively addressed in a cooperative spirit. The TV-EVENT will show how diverse passionate views can come together in a way that builds trust and the spirit of community. Common ground can be discovered, and a group of highly diverse people can arrive at a shared understanding of what is needed to ensure their country's well-being.
By creating a safe space
for different perspectives, creativity can begin to emerge!
The Wisdom Councils work so well, because they use a powerful social technology called "Dynamic Facilitation" or the "Choice-Creating Process"
Tom Atlee, author of "Empowering Public Wisdom", has this to say about his first experience with Dynamic Facilitation: "Never before have I seen so much creativity. Jim and a couple of the particularly quick student facilitators deftly channeled each budding argument into a blossoming of useful information, greatly enhancing our ability to explore together. There was a dynamic forward motion to the group process which -- miraculously -- enhanced thoughtful reflection rather than steamrolling over it. Every voice was heard, and each one of us had a chance to say more of what we had to offer (without blocking other offerings) than in any other process I've experienced. The group energy was very high, with great comradeship despite considerable diversity."
"To reinvent democracy is to change how we think, talk, and make choices and achieve collective wisdom." Michael Erickson
What is a Wisdom Council?
Twelve citizens are randomly selected to meet for a few days as The Wisdom Council. Each Council addresses an issue of high importance, whether it is deemed "solvable" or not. The Council is facilitated using the Choice-Creating Process (aka Dynamic Facilitation), to support a powerfully creative collaborative conversation among participants. Shifts and breakthroughs are the natural result.
What does the Wisdom Council do?
The Wisdom Council presents its perspective to the nation, along with the story of how they reached their unified voice. Everyone is invited to hear their message and their experience, reflect on it with others in small groups, and report back his or her level of resonance. This is both people in the live audience and at home using online technology.
“The TV Series
WISDOM COUNCIL LIVE”
is where randomly selected people address difficult public issues, achieve win/win progress, and where the rest of us get to weigh in as well.. It’s a way to stimulate a legitimate, creative, and, inclusive voice of the people. "We the People" can offer responsible thought leadership to our government, and encourage a shift in our public conversation.
We are working on the name:
When Jim Rough created this method for working effectively with large groups, he named it the "Wisdom Council". This name reflected the powerful results that are obtained when we are able to draw out the wisdom of the group. When folks in Austria started using this method, they changed the name from "Wisdom Council" to "Citizen Council". Now, in preparation for this TV event, we have involved associates and friends in coming up with a new name. We are excited with what we've come up, as "We the People Council" embodies the spirit of this event. If you have any comments or suggestions on the name please let us know!
Your contribution helps us:
We believe it is essential that we come together in wisdom. Here is a way we can move forward. With your contribution and support we will create a sizzle - a short film that introduces this TV-Event visually. Your voice matters! With even 1$ you can say "YES - let's do it!" to this sizzle and to this idea.
With the sizzle and the help of the Reality-TV-Show expert at Voyage Media in Los Angeles we will be pitching this show to broadcast and cable networks and TV production companies.

Voices from the past:
We do not get the whole power of the group unless every individual is given full value. It is the creative spontaneity of each which makes life march on irresistibly to the purposes of the whole. Our social and political organization must be such that this group life is possible." Mary Parker Follet, 1918
"The best public policy is the integration of the knowledge of experts informed by the wisdom of the people!" Thomas Jefferson centuries ago:
"We have frequently printed the word democracy. Yet I cannot too often repeat that it is a word the real gist of which still sleeps, quite unawakened, notwithstanding the resonance and the many angry tempests out of which its syllables have come, from pen or tongue. It is a great word, whose history, I suppose, remains unwritten, because that history has yet to be enacted. It is, in some sort, younger brother of another great and often-used word, Nature, whose history also waits unwritten." Walt Whitman
Voices from the present:
"From my experience, the Dynamic Facilitation technique is THE most powerful one out there. Not only is it FAST, but it's also very "post modern" in that it purposely assists (or facilitates) the use of the creative side of the brain, in concert with the more familiar analytical and linear/procedural 'left brain' stuff we do all the time." Michael Erickson, The Boeing Company
"When the human dimension is addressed well, when people really hear each other and learn about each other's histories, lives, concerns, and needs, all the other questions are far easier to resolve.' It is this attention to the wholeness of human experience that allows us to engage deeply with diversity and reach creative consensus without compromise." Tom Atlee, Co-Founder of the Co-Intellegence Institute

Risks and challenges
After the sizzle is completed we seek to find a network willing to take the risk of commissioning this show, even though it isn't a typical reality show, which mainly creates conflict for entertainment purposes. The challenge: Can we convince a program director that co-creation can be entertaining and stimulate a loyal audience?! If none of the broadcast networks want to take the challenge we will approach cable networks and also PBS. We can also first start in a foreign and smaller country and pitch again in the states later.
The reality TV expert from Voyage Media has run and pitched shows successfully. We are confident to find a network with this sizzle and his help. The timing seems right!!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
