Limited edition of 100 pieces of my 3D printed steel Dragon cabinet handle 010 in polished nickel steel: Get a guard for your cabinet door!
I want to remodel and resize my already existing Dragon doorhandle 010 into a cabinet (or drawer) handle. With this smaller version you can have a whole bunch of little dragons guarding the clothes in your cabinet or even guarding all of your kitchen cupboards.
During the last years I have digitally sculpted and then 3D printed (via shapeways) a set of different metal Dragon door handles. Maybe those rather big dragons are too frightening for some people to start with?
In 2016 a client asked me for a couple of smaller dragons to use them for a cabinet. So I remodeled one of them, Dragon door handle 005, into a smaller and less expensive version: the Dragon cabinet handle 005. The little ones are rather cute.
Now I'm planning to do the same with Dragon door handle 010.
The cabinet hande will be about 7x4x3 cm in size (WxHxD),which is about half the size of the original doorhandle.
The mounting plate (yet to be designed) will have two holes with a diameter of 3,5 mm.
How I work: I create all my dragon handles from scratch, in a 3D modeling software called Zbrush. They are then 3D printed at shapeways (the world's largest 3D printing service) in different available steel materials.
Risks and challenges
Once the sculpting process is finished, I will have test prints made first.
It has happened in the past that designs with delicate parts were not printable as they were, so I had to change details (mostly structural enforcements). Should that happen it will delay the whole process by app. 2 weeks. I don't expect this on this particular dragon!
Also note that with metal 3D printing there might be some tolerances in surface quality and color.
You should not use this handles outdoors or in a very wet environment, because the 3D printed steel will rust.
