TIE-IT-ON Terrier Vintage Fruit Label Mosaic Mural in Tieton
The fourth of seven permanent handmade colored glass mosaic murals mounted in the center of town, fabricated by Tieton Mosaic.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, September 28 2018 2:58 PM UTC +00:00.
Tieton fruit labels from the 1930s through the 1960s expressed sunny optimism, health, and can-do spirit of local family orchards throughout the country. Bold typography, charming illustration, and striking graphics adorned millions of boxes of fruit for decades. It's time to honor this history by bringing these images back to life--on a grand scale.
Tieton Arts & Humanities has taken on an ambitious project to help revitalize Tieton, Washington in the Yakima Valley. We are fabricating seven large glass mosaic murals based on vintage fruit labels from the area. They will be on permanent display around the town square and park. When complete, these murals will attract visitors to Tieton, and will honor the farm families and packing companies that nurtured the abundant apple, pear, cherry, and apricot orchards that surround and help support our town.
The first mural, the "Tieton T," is up and complete, and it's beautiful. Tieton Mosaic is working on the second and third now. The TIE-IT-ON Terrier will be the fourth.
Each mosaic will be eight feet wide, and assembled from thousands of hand-cut colored glass tessera by our local artisans and apprentices in the Tieton Mosaic studio. Each one takes four to six weeks to complete.
The TIE-IT-ON Terrier label is a local favorite. Its vintage image, typography, and the deep, rich colors will be strikingly handsome and attractive.
