We're Funded! Now What? (Updated 4/15/15)
Last night we reached our $5,000 goal. And I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for helping me fulfill my dreams. I'm so excited to get started, and I could never do it without you.
This also gives me the opportunity to think about stretch goals. That I could consider doing bigger and better things with this project is amazing to me. So let's see how big we can think!
$6,000 Stretch Goal
This will channel into what we can do with the music videos. I had planned on a VERY tight budget in regards to filming. But $6,000 would allow us the wiggle room to make the best possible music videos that really highlight the beauty of Seattle. I'd have the freedom to rent out locations for filming, and invite anyone who backed this project to be more involved in the videos themselves.
$8,000 Stretch Goal
You know what this project deserves? A kick-ass CD release party. I'd love to rent out an awesome venue and invite anyone who supported the project. I'd have the ability to make the party worthy of the project. Worthy of all your support. It'd be my way to show my appreciation for everything you've done for me. So let's do it. I'd rent out an indoor put-put golf course, or GameWorks, maybe hold it in the EMP. What I'm getting at is I'd be allowed options!
What will happen if I raise more money, but don't reach one of the stretch goals? All the funds will be going directly into the project. I'd be allowed more time in-studio, to make sure everything is perfect. It'd be funneled into making your backer rewards out of better materials. So nothing will be wasted. It will all go into making this project better in some way.
I’m Katie Kuffel. I have been making music, composing, and singing for 14 years, and I have been an active musician in the Seattle area since I was in high school. I have supported myself with regular gigs and gained a significant online following over the past two years. I’m now hoping to fund a project that will be a culmination of not only my work, but that of my creative team, my supporters, and my fans. I plan to produce an album with 11 tracks of original music.
The process of creating this album, from conception to release, is a collaborative work. Supporting and encouraging local talent is a top priority for me, which is why I try to team up with other artists from the Pacific Northwest whenever possible, and to pay them fairly for their work. Seattle-based documentary filmmaker Matt Longmire of Northwest Films ( http://northwestfilms.com/ ) will be directing music videos for Moorings and Table Song, and the album and merchandise will feature original art from Portland artist Anne Ferguson ( http://anne-ferguson.squarespace.com/ ). All recording will be done at Johnny Bregar's home studio ( http://johnnybregar.com/ ) on Bainbridge Is. WA (my hometown) and I can't thank him and all the other artists enough for working with me on this project. I can’t see this project through without their help—or yours. It truly is a community effort. I am committed to being as transparent as possible about where my Kickstarter funds will be going.
This is the expected breakdown of how I plan to use your donations:
•$2100 to record. $1400 of this will go toward tracking and mixing, and another $500 will pay for mastering.
•$1000–$1300 to press and package 1000 CDs in plastic-free Eco-Wallet cases.
•$2000 (minimum) to record two music videos
The remainder will pay for production and shipping of backer rewards and paying a fair wage to contributing artists.
•Any excess funds will go toward things like transportation, shipping rewards, producing rewards, etc. my stretch goals. I'd love to record a live version of the album. Also It'd be great to add funds to my CD release party. All backers who are able to get to Seattle will be invited! All of my music has been available on a pay-what-you-can basis so far, and I have always tried to keep it as accessible as possible out of appreciation for my fans. If you’ve been enjoying my work so far, this is a great opportunity to show your support!
With love and fair wind for your pigeon wings (ignore this private joke between me and my online following) Katie Kuffel

Risks and challenges
It'd be great if there were no unforeseen road bumps throughout the course of this project. But I know complications arise despite how much planning was done beforehand. With this in mind, I intend to see this project through to the end. It's my baby, so of course I want it to succeed. I'll work hard to make sure it's the best it can be, from recording, to production and manufacturing of physical copies. And I appreciate your support through any of these unfortunate roadblocks!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
