In Australia alone, there are over 85,000 homeless women each year who struggle to access sanitary products. That works out to over 46,000 women each month and includes almost 18,000 young women and girls aged 12-24.
Soon, you will have the power to change this number with one easy consumer choice each month.
Would you do it?

GIFT BOX - THE PRODUCT
Our dream is that every woman worldwide has access to safe, clean, and great quality sanitary products. So we created Gift Box - a 100% organic feminine hygiene range with a heart, where we donate our product, one-for-one, to those in need.
Gift Box is about creating a sustainable support program, so for every tampon and pad purchased, we will donate one to a less fortunate woman in Australia, and eventually worldwide.
The concept of 'GIFT BOX' is a tongue-in-cheek take on literally just that: a gift for your box. We have sourced the highest quality 100% organic cotton tampons from a certified organic manufacturer in Europe - so we haven't compromised on quality. They will be shipped to and packed in Australia using recycled kraft paper boxes, ensuring all aspects of the product are ethical and fair-trade.
So how will we afford to donate one-for-one?
Instead of raking in huge profits and spending money on fancy packaging and advertising, we are absorbing the cost of donations by keeping our business plan nice and simple. Frill-free, low cost packaging (that won't fall apart in your bag), simple, clear and effective branding, and a reliance on the generous word-of-mouth of our future customers to spread the message (that's you!).
With organically grown produce becoming more and more readily available - fruit & vegetables, cosmetics, even clothing - it makes sense that women are switching to organic for their sanitary care. After all, this is a product that makes contact with our most intimate lady-parts, all throughout our baby-making life. Research is revealing that non-organic tampons are riddled with pesticides, heavy metals, synthetic fibres (including plastic!) and are bleached with chlorine, which leads to a toxic byproduct called dioxin: a carcinogen which is linked to cancer and endometriosis. Conventional cotton production is one of the most common industries to use genetically modified crops and pesticides. Not to mention the environmental impact of non-natural materials ending up in landfill and our oceans. For a brand targeted at a socially conscious and progressive audience, organic just made sense.
In Australia each year, over 1.1 million women live in poverty and struggle to afford sanitary products each month. 85,000 women access homelessness services each year, and 25% are young women and girls aged 12-24 (homelessnessaustralia.org.au). Homelessness in Australia affects thousands of women each month, and with limited access to safe, affordable feminine hygiene, many are forced to create makeshift pads and tampons using newspaper, toilet paper, sponges, rags, even dead leaves and bark.
Inspired by socially conscious business models like 'Tom's Shoes' and 'Who Gives a Crap' toilet paper, we set out to create a brand that offers consumers the same quality and price as competing brands, but will be giving back to those less fortunate.
When ex-Neighbours actress Saskia Hampele learned of these shocking statistics last year, she started making a plan to do something about it. Appalled by the lack of sustainable resources for women struggling to access sanitary care, Saskia developed a model that would take something that every woman needs, and use the proceeds to help women in need. Alongside her husband Kayne Tremills, the pair enlisted the help of a few friends (and some well-known faces) to bring this idea to life.

Risks and challenges
I have taken every step to ensure that Organic Certification will be achieved, however until this process has begun it is unclear what unforeseen obstacles I will encounter. I have sourced the product from a EU certified organic manufacturer and will use an organic-certified fulfilment service to make sure everything is following organic certification standards.
I have been researching this idea for almost a year, building relationships with manufacturers, consulting business mentors, and tracking similar successful businesses. With all of this groundwork I feel confident that this will be a viable and thriving business.
I will be taking out public and product liability insurance and shipping insurance to make sure any bumps in the road don't dig into the funds raised and the compromise the mission of this project.
I am building close relationships with reputable, registered charity partners to ensure that donations are going to the intended parties. A clear and accurate system will be keeping track of the sales and stocktake, making sure donations are being made on a one-for-one basis.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
