A feature film about a two year relationship: from start to finish. What can two years do?

Have you ever noticed your walk exactly in sync with someone else's?

When We Separate is a feature film, told in three chapters, that shows the relationship of Toni and Andi; they last for two years. What happens in between?

Three chapters show three different periods of their time together; beginning, middle and end. In a 90-min film we capture that time. "Can we hold on to this moment? How do we go back? How do we skip this?"

This tragedy is about the excitement that comes with meeting someone that changes your world, the fear and work that comes with exposing yourself to another person, and the final acceptance that breaking the cycle and letting it end might be inevitable.

The Team

Our team consists of a small group of talented filmmakers, actors and artists, who are students and/or recent alumni. We've come together to make the film, because we're all in love with the story.

Stefan Pavlovic - Writer/Director - Stefan Pavlovic spend most of his childhood travelling among The Netherlands, former Yugoslavia and the United States. He is now in his final year at Art Center College of Design, where he studies Film Directing. Stefan Pavlovic is a filmmaker whose work deals with a sense of connection and the passage of time. He's worked on numerous films and documentaries that have been screened all over the world. This is his first feature film. www.stefanpavlovic.com

Temra Pavlovic - Cinematographer - Born in The Netherlands and recently graduated from Cal Arts. Recipient of The Princes Grace Film Undergraduate Scholarship, 2011, John H. Johnson Award. Temra Pavlovic is a filmmaker whose work blurs the lines of documentary and experimental film. www.temra.com

Ryan Hugh Mcdonald - Light - Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ryan studies cinematography at the Art Center College of Design. Recipient of the ASC Andrew Laszlo Heritage Award for Outstanding Cinematography 2012 for the film 'Aexis'. https://vimeo.com/hrmcdonald

Anuar Valdovinos Yahya - Sound - Born in Mexico City, Anuar is studying Film Directing at the Art Center College of Design. His work blends the boundaries of youth and adulthood. He has developed a great passion for sound. https://vimeo.com/anuar

Nikki Hock - Toni - Nikki currently attends the Mime Academy in Amsterdam, but is slowly making his way over to film. His work deals with the relations between body and space and how environment influences mood.

Poppy Golland - Andi - Poppy, from Santa Rosa, California, and lives in Chicago. Poppy has a massive background in theater. She currently plays the lead in a production of August Strindberg's 'Miss Julie' with Vintage Theater Collective.

Marguerite Insolia - Sara - Marguerite Insolia grew up outside of Boston, MA. She graduated from New York University at the top of her class, earning 4 degrees, none of which had anything to do with acting. Her father is still questioning her motives. In April of 2012, Marguerite was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as, The Muse, in the feature film, "The Muse". She currently plays a series regular role in the series, "Massholes" that began airing September 27th on Ben Silverman's Youtube channel, Electus. Marguerite was listed as IMDB's #9 Rising Star of 2012. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3638581/

Where do you come in, and what do you get?

With your help, we'll set out to make this project in the best possible way and share this beautiful, authentic story with the world. Your contributions will go towards:

{Cast & Crew}   {Locations}   {Props}   {Food!}   {Transportation}

Even a small amount will have an impact on the end result.

Rewards

What do you get in return for your generous contribution?

The film deals with universal themes such as communication, intimacy, doubt, passion, compromise. I wanted to find a way to make the rewards more personal than just a thank you, a poster or a T-shirt.

So, I came up with this: the bigger the amount of your pledge, the bigger your influence on the film. For example, with a donation of $25 you can send me a sentence that I will find a place for in the film. Get it? The sentence will become an object, a small story, a location, etc, with bigger donations. Fun, right?

Final Thoughts

This is a true passion project. I've worked on it for over two years and am fully prepared to start production. We've waited so long for this moment to come and we can't wait to start working!

Your support, whether through a pledge or just by spreading the word is truly appreciated!

Let's make a film!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

This film will sink or swim based on the authenticity of the characters and their relationship. As a director, this is my utmost priority. As a producer who is also a full-time student, the more logistical aspects of the production may prove to be a challenge.

Luckily, film school can also help solve those problems by lending precious resources to the film - ones that aren't just material, but more importantly, fellow students and friends.
